What if film critics were more like olympic hosts? Commenting about how well cast and crew pull off difficult things? Mourning alongside them when mistakes happen? Maybe it doesn’t comp, but I like the idea of focusing on successes.

Asimov's actions, and the tolerance-up-to-celebration of it, absolutely drove women out of field and out of fandom, and made it easier for others in the field, writers, editors and fans, to follow his lead for decades. Asimov pinching asses was not about his work. It kept women and their work out.

It’s good messaging, and Democrats across the country should be using it. And it’s powerful because it’s simple and connects concerns of the working and middle class to an admin that is hostile to those concerns and is instead laser-focused on elite impunity and interested of the uber-wealthy.
Ossoff: We were told that MAGA was for working-class Americans. But this is a government of, by, and for the ultra-rich. It’s the wealthiest Cabinet ever. This is the Epstein class. They are the elites they pretend to hate.

I feel like Los Angeles is a place where people expect ICE to happen because the kidnappings have been happening to my home city for decades, so there’s less media attention to it now. and I want folks to see that in LA, Latine students are organizing major protests & the police are attacking them
LAPD Charges at Hundreds of High School Students in Peaceful Walkout Protest at MDC ~ L.A. TACO
LAPD arrested at least two teenagers protesting ICE raids in Los Angeles yesterday. They were also seen corresponding with ICE agents on Alameda Street during the demonstrations.

on the balance i think partisan gerrymandering is bad but the only way it ends is if democrats weaponize it against republicans everywhere they can. wiping out republican lawmakers in blue states might bring the GOP to the table to end the practice.

Thank you! Such challenging locations to film in the middle of winter, including Leadville, 10,000 feet high in the Rockies. Mad respect for cast and crew. At times the temperature dropped to -25F!
@galeannehurd.bsky.social I just noticed you were the producer on Switchback (1997). It's a strong action/thriller -- but what makes it spectacular is the location work. The film has such a beautiful and evocative sense of place.

The showrunner is reviewing your script. She points out a joke that she absolutely loves, but you didn’t come up with it; another writer pitched it. What do you? Here’s a quick #Scriptsky #Screenwriting thread on when to credit others, when to take credit, and when to keep your mouth shut.

OMG it happened again. Same video platform as last time (not zoom, I misspoke), I mentioned something I don’t usually talk about out loud and now POW an ad for that thing, this time on my iPad as an in-game ad.
I said the word "neuropathy" during a zoom meeting at 10 a.m.

Less than 5 hours later (first time I've opened Safari on my phone since), I'm seeing ads about neuropathy on my phone. FFS. And here I feel like I've done a fairly good job following all the guides to limit listening/access, etc.

Democratizing the arts looks like universal income, low-barrier grants for both emerging and working artists, well-funded municipal arts & recreation programs, vibrant third spaces, and a well-funded public school system with progressive curriculum.

Not a free pass for corporate-owned slop engines.
Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams
