to enjoy art and culture, you have to have some sort of actual aesthetic judgment, even if only expressed & measured by yourself

the rightwing folks I know IRL (& ones I see on here) are too obsessed with in-group & elite acceptance and approbation to have an actual, real opinion of their own
The decline of right wing cultural production is just due to the fact that they don’t like culture, they like the signifiers of culture, ie “classic sculpture means white people are better.” They don’t like art at all except for this purpose. They don’t even like the nerd stuff they whine about

i have come to the view that there is an extent to which elites are projecting the salience of bigotry on the broad public. *they* are preoccupied with this stuff and so they imagine the public must be obsessed with it.

This entire thread.

Very timely—been thinking about taking more of my devices permanently offline & starting to seriously think about backing up various OSs & firmware (how long before my PS4 won't load a non-live service game I have physical media for Or won't boot without an active network?
This is an entirely authoritarian move, meant to lock people into ecosystems and walled off Gardens for life while also providing a perfect surveillance and surveillance capital system for the fascist oligarchy that controls our information spaces

This should be seen as a form of colonization

Jesse Jackson was an early and ardent supporter of gay rights. In fact, on July 17, 1984 at the DNC in San Fransisco, the first speech EVER at a national political convention calling for gay rights was delivered by none other than Rev. Jackson himself.

When you work with broad swathes of people, this really is true. It's horribly fascinating how even people from the same family will fall indifferent sides of the line. So much of the world's everyday suffering is due to ppl punishing everyone except those who hurt them.
There are two kinds of people in the world:

People who suffered, and think because of that, everyone else should suffer the way they did because otherwise it's not fair.

People who suffered, and think because of that, no one else should have to suffer either.

Be the second.

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

I always say this—if any data or footage is collected anywhere, eventually police will come asking for it or someone will figure out a way to sell them access to it. This is also true of ICE.
Police departments across the US are quietly leveraging school district security cameras to assist Donald Trump’s mass immigration enforcement campaign, an investigation by @the74.bsky.social reveals.

Great thread on why how they handle Geordi's disability rep in TNG matters
As I've been on a roll with Star Trek threads today, let's continue with this one: you know one of the best parts of Geordie's visor?

90% of the time, nobody fucking mentions it.

Alt: Geordie LaForge, rolling to make it out of Engineering under the lowering blast doors.

random reminder that Brett Kavanaugh was accused of rape by multiple women and Clarence Thomas was accused of sexual harassment by multiple women.

Neither is in the epstein files afaik, but it seems like sexual violence against women should matter even so. 1

it's deeply funny how maintaining the belief in fascism requires hiding any contrary information, and how every institution has to abase itself toward that end.

For autistic people, wage theft is the absolute norm.

You're more likely to have your job expand far beyond its description, to voluntarily take on unpaid labor, to be persuaded by appeals to empathy for coworkers who'll be affected by you saying no, etc

SFUSD is on strike & as rough as it is on kids and families, it's with good cause. The purposeful, chronic underfunding of anything that helps people for free being while there are always trillions for death and suffering has been true my entire life /Xennial

We don't have to live like this
Weird how they keep finding more money to fund the gestapo that is damaging job numbers by deporting workers but can't find any for a universal healthcare system that will save money, a free housing for homeless folk program that will save money, or universal basic income that'll boost the economy.

I've had Kidney in a Cooler stuck in my head for a week now. Yesterday, after stumbling across a mention on here, I tried to sent Guantanamera after it—this earworm has had strong staying power in the past—to no avail. Trying to decide if it's worth making a devil's pact & mainlining TMBG

There are no words to adequately describe the evil here.
Israel used weapons in Gaza that made thousands of Palestinians evaporate
