Your rage is rain in a distant state. I saw the shape of a monster then a small man then a grasping hand then a single dull and baitless hook in the same breaking cloud, but the blue #slipped through every time.

I'm here to shamelessly plug my partner's bookstagram 😤

She's an avid gothic fiction fan and is reviewing books to begin with! There are big plans and it's going to be a fun journey, but we need to get it off the ground first 👀

In today’s studio session I arrived at the “I’ll never successfully write a single note of music ever again for as long as I live!” moment.

I’ll try again tomorrow

life's overnight drive
hard drizzle pelts my windshield
wipers struggle to keep up
but there's a spot of clear
low in my hazy window
and a set of taillights ahead
- red and bright in the gloom -
the driver probably not even realizing
they're helping me find my way home

This week in Other People's Music: synthwave skeleton draped with electro/chiptune muscle; fuzzy polygenre psych weirdness; cyberpunk trance; chill downtempo; & outrageous pop-rap-trap-metal-industrial fusion.

Today's bird for #birbfest was simply nuthatch, which I assume means we get to pick our own variety! Here's a white-breasted nuthatch in an iconic nuthatch pose.

Peter Pan mouths the words to an old, angry song. He knows if he sings the boys will hear the clock in his throat.

Tink shakes like a bell.

From between her long teeth, a #drizzle of spit darkens the bodice of Wendy's dress, day-to-night. An offal desire has thawed in her captive heart.

This is an excellent analogy, because my recollection from grade school is that the pen on the right looks fun and exciting, and then you play with it for a few minutes and realize it's not actually useful for anything and in fact makes some tasks more cumbersome, and never think about it again.
yeah, just out of interest, how many people choose the pen on the right for real work or art? See a lot of them in professional workplaces, do you?

An orchestral work inspired by classical, soundtrack music and, probably, a bit of ambient and related electronic work.

I make music to keep the Great Old Ones in their timeless slumber.
Some people say that they make music for themselves, ie the music they would like to listen to. I don’t think that’s the right way. But I also don’t think we should make music for other people. I think we should try to make music that music would like, if it was sentient, which it might be.

If my music doesn’t make me feel something then I can’t expect it to make anyone else feel something. If I worried about impressing someone I probably wouldn’t impress anybody, especially myself.
Why do you feel the need to attempt to placate and impress your scene at the expense of your own enthusiasm? Why aren’t you making the art you want to make? If you aren’t personally stoked about your shit why would anybody else be? It starts with you. Do what makes you happy right fucking now.

This whole thread is worth a read.

“Keep making your art. Your ability to create is a superpower envied by billionaires. It’s something unique to you no tech can replicate.”
One tiny comfort I experience as a creator right now:

Some of the richest people on the planet have poured billions into a plagiarism machine because they are so utterly desperate to be us

But no machine learning program can give them our skills, our vision, or our heart

And they hate that

Fellow artists, trust your instincts. Make the thing you're worried only you will understand. That is where truth lies and often leads to deep audience connection.
