Sure I had my own issues growing up there and I left fairly quickly once I was old enough, but not for any of the stereotypical reasons. The reputation is absolutely unearned.
Can I just say, making fun of New Jersey was only ever a thing because the New Yorkers who wrote TV shows in the 90s only knew about three states.

New Jersey is great.

Annual reminder:

Die Hard is about using impossibly limited resources to defend a tower from foreign invaders.

Die Hard is a Hanukkah movie.

“Person of the year” is not an objective metric of merit. It’s not a compliment. It’s TIME magazine editorial staff deciding someone was in the news a lot.
Reminder that Time's Person of the Year was once a computer. It was never intended to be a "this person is wonderful and we're celebrating them" thing, it's always been what has dominated the news as an important story that year. In 2017 #MeToo was Person of the Year.

If you’re parenting twins, especially if they’re identical, it’s imperative that you do all you can to encourage individuality & uniqueness. You don’t want them to fall into the trap of identifying so closely with each other that they see themselves as a single unit.

I had idea who Jesse Singal was until he came to Bluesky and literally everyone got mad. Now there are petitions going around to get his ass booted.

This is what getting older feels like. Someone you’ve never heard of materializes out of nowhere with a huge following and/or controversy.

The one thing I agree with Jacob on is people like him should hold off on having children until things are ideal for their goals.
Tech bros know what every parent wants: children who sleep less

I’m now taking 15-20 minute power naps after dinner. Not every day but often enough that it’s a thing. I have become my father.

I believe that a lot of people use neurodivergence as an excuse to limit themselves. Social anxiety, autism, general anxiety, whatever. “I have _________, therefore I cannot do ________.”
Or, perhaps, you step out of your comfort zone just a little bit and experience life more.

What is your Star Trek hot take?

I don’t have a health care horror story to compare, but one time my insurance tried to deny a colonoscopy as “experimental.”

A colonoscopy. Which every human is recommended to do routinely at a certain age.

That I needed a few years early to determine why I was shitting myself to death.

Schadenfreude is all fine and good, but a system where prioritizing corporate profits over people’s health to devastating effect is actually legal seems to be the bigger problem than one guy getting shot.

What’s the over/under on UHC modifying their business strategy in response to the shooting?

I wonder how many rounds of notes this got before the people behind it gave up and sent this version out.

Advantage of human artists: usually they can understand the fixes you want, or you can replace them with one who can.
Excellent work AI Santa, you’ve made the perfect gingerbread man. The humans will never know.

My parents rented Oliver Stone’s The Doors and then went out on a date. They came home during the scene where Jim is stoned and drinking blood with two naked women. I saw the end of the film some years later.
Did you watch R rated movies before you were 17? If you did, do you remember what your first R rated movie was?

Mine was Starship Troopers. Not sure exactly how old I was but I couldn't have been older than 11 based on where we lived

This is the same deal with “cancel culture.” It doesn’t exist. No one, absent criminal conviction, has ever been cancelled.

No one is entitled to an audience. If what you create is unappealing to many, you have fewer consumers.

This is simply the free market at work.

In case anyone is concerned, the rabies vaccine likely won’t affect the vampirism virus, so aspirants for the sublimely dark immortality need not worry about missing their chance.
Rabies virus is the most lethal virus. Neuroinvasive rabies is a death sentence.

I cannot stress this enough: if you have any physical contact with a bat—especially a bite—get treatment immediately. If it gets into your central nervous system, you will die horribly.

You know those dreams when you’re back in high school and don’t know what’s going on?

Last night, I got a report card.

Apparently, I’m barely skirting by with Cs, the majority of my time being spent finding where the classes are rather than being attentive in them.
