Nothing like a proposal for a modest amount of lower-income housing nearby to find out who your neighbors are.

Turns out poor people spent a lot of money on tea and sugar *because they were poor* and that was their inadequate replacement for unaffordable things like cooking fuel, food with actual nutritional content, and enough calories to slave away over a loom for 12 hours.

Does anyone know why @sarahkendzior has been suspended? Account can no longer be found?

Have there been more suspensions recently? Any pattern?

I am on the margins of Bluesky but didn’t really come across suspensions among my follows.

It is so, so important to learn to understand the difference between A Gross Thing That Freaks Me Out, versus A Thing Which Causes Actual Harm In The World

because as long as you can't navigate the difference, your disgust is a lever that can be used to manipulate you
This remains evergreen.

I'm pretty glad I can't vote for anybody in Congress tbh because I don't want the moral quandary of voting for what would probably be a execrable Dem man

Should politicians be able to cross the floor and join another party? To me, the answer is no. You should be able to leave a party but sit as an independent until the next election. While we're fixing things, you should also have to live in a riding 1y+ before you can run in that riding.

When I was renting and I complained about renting, 90% of homeowners in my life told me I just didn't understand how ~hard~ homeownership was and how much more expensive it was than renting.
I suspected that was BS.
Now I've been a homeowner for a while and I KNOW it's BS. Renting sucks.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

I don't often repost stuff from my personal account here, but one of my other passions is retro game music and I just really want as many people as possible to hear this track because it's ridiculous how hard it goes.
I will never stop talking about the theme from level 6 of Double Dragon II for PC Engine CD that sounds like a lost RZA track and samples Leonard Nimoy from a 1987 new age album where he reads poetry over sounds of humpback whales.

I made a stunningly, preternaturally, just-about-unequivocably Correct Decision which seemed like a total long shot and a huge risk for my risk-averse ass in 2007 and just about every day I thank my past self for taking a leap he was *not at all* confident about. Good job past me.

Kinda weird that the money intended to help the poor eat is designed to be LESS useful for the poorest of the poor.

If you live out of your car, how are you supposed to cook a raw chicken?
Most people don’t know that with SNAP you are banned from buying “foods that are hot at the point of sale”. So even if you have SNAP (which people don’t now) you can’t get cooked food. Which means you need to also actually have the resources to PREPARE a “healthy” meal.
Thinking about the social stigma against eating fast food in a country where poor people are being starved by the govt, the cost of groceries and fresh vegetables are astronomical, and a cheeseburger at McDonald’s costs $3.50.

“Clean” and “healthy” eating rhetoric is racist, ableist, and classist.
