Hey so I did a thing!

This is the first personal writing I've done since January that's gone anywhere, and I'd love to see if you can FIND ME!

check out the thread below and look at this year's book list.

Entries close Oct. 22nd.
Hey all! I'm finally finding some equilibrium, after months of intensive care work with my mother, and seeing daylight on several creative projects.

Including: the 2025 Publishing Derby.

My latest book is one of the books on this page! Can you guess which one is mine?

I'm guessing we've all aged roughly two years since I interviewed @brynhammond.bsky.social and company earlier this month.

That said, I recently picked up her latest short fiction collection and wanted to share some thoughts:
I’m reading more steppe fiction: A Visit from the Scythians, a collection by Bryn Hammond
Evidently, I’ve been on a kick of reading, reviewing, and interviewing authors about their fiction set in the historical Eurasian steppe. Both the real and imagined Eurasian steppe (and its d…

My heart is so heavy … I lost a friend and mentor yesterday and the disability community lost a leader.

The incomparable Alice Wong passed away.

She inspired me to find my voice.

She encouraged me to take up space and embrace my disabled body.

Key point whenever you see an Altman prediction: the purpose of his predictions is *not* to accurately guess the future but build rationales in the present favorable to his company's interests. If you ignore everything he says you'll be smarter about AI.
Altman, and all these folks don't make predictions in order to predict the future, they make them to a) justify an overclocked corporate valuation, and b) argue for undoing regulations and receiving government support.

Every 5 years or so, some genius VC-backed startup tries to monetize fanfic. 831 Stories seems particularly cynical to me, astroturfing their own tag on AO3 and even linking the site on their official page as though it's just another place to have a social media presence.

33) Job titles are arbitrary, but adventurers are weird

A lot of folks have absorbed the idea of the D&D-esque adventurer w/o thinking about how we got that point. Adventurers are fundamentally people who don't fit into established society. They exist outside of it. That's what an adventure is.

Shittification and shareholder return

A rehash of an old thread

Why is everything crap. Well, here we learn why Adam Smith was an early Marxist, in that though he had great faith in markets

He had zero faith in merchants

And the reason why, is why no one answers your helpline
