Next time I'm having a discussion about why Mormons don't drink tea or coffee I'll suggest that the reason is that God is a dentist who wants us to have white teeth.
okay teeth are probably worth it but COME ON

Here’s where it gets personal for me. When I was 9, I started experiencing suicidal ideation … disinterested in living, and at least some of the time contemplating death and how it might happen … It’s easy to imagine how I would have used programs like these chatbots.
Perry: How can AI be used ethically when it’s been linked to suicide?
"It’s not on us, on you and me, to use AI ethically or responsibly. It’s on the companies to build safe, reliable, ethical products," David M. Perry writes.

While we got very good at eating in the car, I learned how desperately I missed unlimited chips and salsa from a tex-mex place. Buying chips and salsa from the store to eat at home does not scratch the same itch.
a big thing i learned about myself during covid is that i just want to buy a goddamned baguette from the store or the bakery, i literally never want to make the damned thing myself

"Why don't they just apply for citizenship?"

This is a question often directed toward undocumented immigrants living in the United States.

But the pathway to American citizenship for the vast majority is long, complex, and financially draining.

reposting with alt text because this feels incredibly significant. the right-wing disinfo machine means a lot of the people grieving Charlie Kirk never heard any of the things he said that would have tarnished his brand as Guy Who Just Wants to Have Dialogue Across the Aisle

I have a couple of comments about the "free speech hero" narrative about Charlie Kirk.

First, was Charlie Kirk really notable for supporting the free speech of people he disagreed with? I haven't noticed that, though I could have missed it.

So what I glean about this Mars announcement is that chemicals were found on Mars that on Earth are due to life, and no one knows any other way to make them on Mars. However, this is very far from knowing they *were* made by life. Reminds me of phosphine on Venus; "we don't know" doesn't mean life.

1 $10 donation is enough to create a kit that supports a trans person for a YEAR.

If you’re a person with a little bit of ability to save, imagine the good small donation could do.

If you’re relatively comfortable, imagine what a substantial donation could do.
Fuck it. Trans folks need MATERIAL SUPPORT.

@distributeaid.org is launching an HRT Harm Reduction Toolkit that provides 1 year of medical supplies needed to take injection-based HRT. We were planning to go live in January, but I'm not waiting.
