Somehow, the future is both going to be a dystopian techno sci-fi hellscape AND we're gonna have coal and measles and robber barons and a permanent underclass.

Good morning.

Today is the 80th day that the U.S. President is running a backdoor bribery scheme in which any CEO or foreign oligarch can send him money secretly through his crypto coin scam in exchange for favors.

It's the biggest scandal in the history of the Presidency.

I received a heartbreaking email today: A paper in a special issue I’m editing is being retracted because one of its authors is afraid of losing their job and their legal status in the U.S. if they publish a scientific study on evolution. Yes, on evolution, nature's engine of diversity.

The IRS Free File pilot program helped 140K taxpayers save $5.6M in tax filing costs in 2024.

Despite recent claims, the program is still running and is now available to 30M people in 2025.

Any attempt to dismantle it will enrich the tax prep industry at your expense.

I’ve heard some stories recently of people complying with fascists’ demands after they were threatened.

As a violence researcher (and someone who has received a good deal of threats), everyone should know that complying will not save you. It only teaches the threatener that threats work.

What if the “crisis of masculinity” is really a bunch of men with a skill issue; and instead of turning inward and unfucking themselves, found it easier to just hate women specifically, and society more broadly? And in so doing they found a community of fellow dipshits?

House Republicans released a draft budget that aims to cut $2 trillion in spending.

The programs impacted could include Medicaid, SNAP, and education programs.

Why the cuts? To finance another round of tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations.

Last night, a woman in my book signing line told me this…

A reader & a fan of my work, she was currently between homes. Back at the register, she couldn’t afford a copy of DEATH OF THE AUTHOR. Someone in line behind her stepped up & bought her a copy.🥹

A reminder of what TRULY makes America great.
