The name “Crémieux” that Jordan Lasker uses is a specific, deeply anti-Muslim dog whistle: a reference to the Crémieux Decree — the official anti-Islam policy of colonial France, making Muslims in Algeria second-class citizens. I totally relate to this but wish I'd seen it years earlier...I wrote a science fiction novel in which I named one of my aliens 'Cunt' which apparently in North America is a very rude word.
Writing science fiction involves a lot of Googling your made up alien names in order to check they don't mean something horrendous in a real Earth language
