This was the original plan for the Paul King movies - he’d demonstrated the technique worked on the big screen in Bunny and the Bull, deliberately - but the studio weren’t keen on using the 2D/3D blend, as the Ivor Wood animations have zero nostalgic recognition outside the UK.
Paddington, the Peruvian Psychopomp, made his BBC debut on this day in 1976. The mixture of 2D supporting characters with a 3D Paddington still works incredibly well and made it feel like you were seeing the character coming to life from the pages of his own books.

In the past week, I have bought tickets for Die Walküre at the Royal Opera House and Parsifal at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. Both productions are in one month of each other. the ticket in London cost £160, whereas the ticket in Berlin came in at £68.
