The Trump administration reversed a Biden-era ban on antipersonnel land mines except on the Korean Peninsula.

The memo, signed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, says the reversal would give the U.S. military a “force multiplier” against enemies.

I feel like whenever I would worry about younger generations forgetting the lessons of WWII, I always thought it would be more like they wouldn't know about Hitler at all or fall for a similar despot, but I did not expect that they would like specifically get *into* Hitler. Like a folk hero.

Maybe not what Orwell had in mind, but we have reached a sort of “2 + 2 = 5” situation where the White House wants us to believe “87% = 600%” a reality which would derail all of mathematics if true.
FOX: If you cut something by 100%, the cost goes down to 0. If you cut it by 600%, the drug companies are actually paying you

LUTNICK: What he's saying is if a drug was $100 and you bring it down to $13, it's down 7 times

F: Not a 600% cut

L: But it's 700% higher price before. It's down 700% now

Reporters better PRINT OUT TRUMP’S POST ON A GIANT POSTER BOARD so the second Mike Johnson claims he was too busy with his healthcare bill to have seen it they can hold it up and say “read it right now motherfucker”

I understand that a lot of folks have been misled by fear-mongering and powerful regressive voices but it’s still astonishing to me that so many have fallen for the idea that oppressively policing other people’s gender identity and expression could in any way be part of an enlightened future.

This is a variation on "Twitter isn't real life." As a degenerate who spent the last decade swimming these waters I've followed this story with interest, but I don't think there's a single person in my offline life who has even HEARD OF this story, much less knows the context of any of it.

The fact that we have super wealthy and extremely stupid people trying to set themselves up as new nobles has made historical nobility, which I only know from books, far more real to me. These people were not smart, they did not rule well, and rigid hierarchies of domination are very bad.

Democratic leaders need to unanimously come to Ilhan’s defense. This is non-negotiable. Anyone who remains silent is complicit.
Trump: "Ilhan Omar, whatever the hell her name is. With her little turban. I love her. She comes in, does nothing but bitch ... we ought to get her the hell out ... she's here illegally."

The crowd in Pennsylvania then starts chanting "send her back!"

watching all the travelers be diverted around by armed guards so RFK can film himself screaming about baby formula (?) and doing half of one pull up - neither of which are related to his job - is just so poetic.

I think, in general, the level to which people have conflated “I personally support my friend” & “my friend suffering consequences for their actions is mean & maybe even immoral” in the post-MeToo/collapse-of-public/private-self-social-media-age is alarming.
It's wild how people are just openly say, "hey stop being mean, she's my friend."

Do that shit in private if you want but it's embarrassing to write a LinkedIn endorsement disguised as a literary essay.

A feel like the goal of a liberal democracy (and to be the stewards of it) should be to defend people’s right to *be* however they want to be. Demanding people “be more culturally normal” isn’t just stupid it’s also an impossible quest.

Even if we were to take voters at face value that they backed Trump because they wanted cheaper eggs (and we shouldn’t), it would be entirely unacceptable to support someone who speaks about other human beings this way no matter what price he could get eggs to (and he couldn’t)

I’d love to see the parallel universe where Trump ran exclusively on bulldozing part of the White House to build a ballroom with technocrat bribe money because only he was equipped to do it. Promises made, promises kept.
