Yes, 1994.
Police in Montreal raid the KOX/Katakombes bar and arrest all the patrons for being in a "bawdy house".

Reports say that around 165 patrons were arrested.

This led to protests and demonstrations against police discrimination of the community.

Not for the first time recently, I'm wondering, do I update LinkedIn and give it a proper go?

Is there much call for queer historians doing fun things there?

Princess Diana, an important and vital ally to the queer community in one of our darkest hours, delivered a powerful speech at the First Management Forum Conference on AIDS in London.
She spoke of the "aching loneliness and rejection" people felt.

Our new Queer and Trans Histories series creates a home for cutting‑edge work on past and present LGBTQ+ lives.

We’re looking for proposals grounded in rich empirical work and innovative approaches to intimacy, emotion, silence, and subjectivity.

I am currently making myself chuckle with adding more and more unhinged lines to that bit in Its Raining Men where the Weather Girls are listing types of men.

Every specimen.

It's for a thing which I'll be able to shout about soon.

Muhsin Hendricks was an imam and scholar. He advocated for greater acceptance of LGBTQIA+ people within Islam. After coming out in 1996, he set up safe spaces, support & foundations to defend queer Muslims.
He died #OTD after two masked gunmen opened fire on him.

It’s the middle of LGBT History Month so a good moment to remind everyone that my book, Trans Britain — a modern history fashioned from the observations of generations of contributors — is still going strong in paperback and eBook form in its ninth year. It’s […]

In Bristol today we said:
No to racism.
No to anti-migrant hate.
No to anti-Muslim hate.
No to anti-Jewish hate.
No to any and every form of hate that's directed at people whether it's to do with where they come from, the god they worship, or the colour of their skin.

We stand up for one another.

To give you an idea of how deranged the UK has become about gender stuff, here's Enid Blyton - the absolute avatar of classic English conservatism and a huge fan of racist "gollywogs" - casually describing a gender non-conforming kid in the 1940s and having their friends be totally cool with it.

Excited to be talking about Freedom, a group thats been supporting LGBTQIA+ young people (and their families) in Bristol since 1995, at the OutStories LGBTQ+ History Month event at MShed today.

I've been part of the team since 2023, and it's been the most rewarding work.

Italian Renaissance artist, Giovanni Antonio Bazzi, known as Il Sodoma, dies in Siena #OTD.

Historian Vasari says Bazzi surrounded himself with "beardless youths, whom he loved more than was decent". Bazzi took pride in the nickname and sang songs about it.

Really proud to be the LGBT+ Trailblazer of the year.

And so proud of the real trailblazers - like my boyfriend - who works in palliative care.

Our NHS workers, our teachers, our cleaners.

The people who keep our country running.

And LGBT+ History month matters. Representation matters.

Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome!

Based on the semi-autobiographical novel Goodbye to Berlin, telling a fictionalised version of Christopher Isherwood's life in Berlin, the fabulous film Cabaret was released #OTD.

The film went on to win 8 academy awards.
