#OTD trans pioneer Michael Dillon's autobiography Out of the Ordinary: A Life through Gender and Spiritual Transitions is published posthumously - he completed the manuscript in 1962. He also wrote Self: A Study in Ethics and Endocrinology in 1946.

To commemorate Bangladesh's legal recognition of their gender a year earlier, which enabled the Hijra community to identify themselves as a separate gender in passports and other state papers, the Hijra community hold the first Hijra Pride.

Harvey Milk, self-dubbed Mayor of Castro Street, was elected City Supervisor of San Francisco #OTD. He was in post for 11 months before he was assassinated.
He introduced a bill banning discrimination based on sexual orientation in public accommodations, housing, and employment.

José Julio Sarria enters the race for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the 1st out & proud queer person to run for office.
José was a drag performer and was known as The Grand Mere, Absolute Empress I of San Francisco and later, the Widow Norton.

Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent is born. Known as a fair ruler who brought law and fought corruption, Suleiman can be described as LGBTQIA+.
He admired of Alexander the Great, and bestowed titles and honours on his favourite Pargali Ibrahm Pasha.

Lee Brewster founded the Queen's Liberation Front (QLF) to advance the rights of "transvestites and drag queens", to use the language of the time.
Notably, some members lobbied politicians in full drag, and they overturned local laws against cross-dressing

#OTD President Obama enacts the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr Hate Crime Prevention Act.
This widens federal hate crime laws to include those motivated by actual or perceived sexuality, gender or ability. It also extended protection to the trans community.
