I don’t want to formulate words yet, but my friend Alice Wong, @sfdirewolf.bsky.social of the Disability Visibility Project, has passed.

Here are the words she left behind:

One thing I've put in a bunch of my books: an MC whose career isn't a big part of their identity, and sometimes this character specifically refuses to monetize their hobbies.

So there’s a lawyer going around BlueSky right now responding to everyone talking about the Anthropic book settlement by (1) urging people to opt out and (2) saying that they are representing authors who are opting out.

one of the best writing things I did a few years ago was to keep a craft journal (on paper, in my house, in my indecipherable handwriting) about every book I read that year. No star ratings or hierarchies — these were not reviews.

Might go back to it as a habit for 2026.
Romance should evolve, but its so clear when people want the shine and financial benefit of Romance without respecting the genre, its conventions, or the readers. It's disturbing, but not surprising that we've arrived in a place where CRAFT DOESNT MATTER is a thing people believe.

can't reward myself with anything good to eat after chemo because everything tastes like shit 😭

fortunately, this side effect only seems to last 24 hours, so I'm not constantly dealing with it.

Asian nurse asked if I'm mixed and I've never been so glad to have that happen? Like, I have no hair and I was wearing an N95 type mask at the time, and that weirdly made me feel like myself.

is it ridiculous that I wish there was more masking in the literal cancer hospital, especially as we head into flu season

Wow I have not even clicked through to see who this is, but "we invented the idea of a romance series" is the boldest claim I've seen since that time someone claimed a book had invented oral sex in romance. 😂
I’ll say this much: This reads exactly like what it is: people who discovered romance five years ago and decided they had all kinds of amazing new ideas to “fix” it. Connections between books? That feel kind of cozy to the reader? How did no one ever think of that?? www.nytimes.com/2025/11/13/b...

Looks like this story has been making the news outside of Canada, but here's the CBC article.
Man who took Hamilton bus on joy ride 'did a great job' driving, left no dings, say police | CBC News
He made several stops along the way, allowing passengers to get on and off, police say. He was then arrested.

look, sorry, I really hate the "this person looks like shit for their age b/c they're evil!" thing that happens repeatedly here and elsewhere on social media.

GP they never go back to me but I took a close look at the csv files and sort of understand what happened.

I'm fairly confident that nothing is truly amiss...it looks like I earned *too much* money in one place, but with the negative royalties elsewhere, it adds up to the right amount. So...yay?
One of these issues is that I have made -$2 CAD in the past couple of months on a free book. From the dashboard, it looks like 2 people returned the book?? and I got charged about $1 each time??

anyway, make sure you check your statements. I'm still waiting on a resolution to this.
I have like four separate annoyances/issues with Google Play right now, which have all come up within the last 2 days.

I've averaged <$12 CAD/month in royalties there this year. It's not worth this aggravation.

Somewhere out there someone who’s the best at what they do is terrified that they have imposter syndrome while a bunch of barely literate pedophiles are very calmly running the world

I haven't been experiencing brain fog on chemo yet, which I suppose is lucky. My brain has been shit for a long time anyway...but it hasn't gotten worse.

Right, this event needs $1500 to happen. There are 600 participating bookstores & for most it’s their busiest sales day of the year, or is second only to Indie Bookstore Day / Small Business Saturday.

Editors/publishers, this is a no-brainer of an opportunity for your imprint. Romancelandia: pls RT
I'm gonna be real-real here: Bookstore Romance Day may not happen in 2026. By this time of year, I've usually secured at least a handful of sponsors & their backing helps pay for things like newsletter services & Canva & Zoom & internet, all of which are needed for planning & off-season events.

Looks like the last time the Goodreads Choice awards had a historical romance nominee in the romance category was...2019?
November 11, 2025 at 11:33 PM
I haven't read a single Goodreads Choice nominee in the romance category, though I've read at least one book by more than half of the authors in the category. I've also read: 2 romantasy, 1 mystery, and 1 fantasy.

I do sometimes still read the AI scam things and they end up so unintentionally hilarious with word choices that no human being would ever make.

Please be aware of HOW MANY scams are out there right now. You can tell AI “create a book promotion website for me in English” & it’s done.
I got a chilling email last week, asking if I’d used “The Author’s Edge” services. The site used me as a reference with a fraudulent VHStone gmail address.
