Look, Bluesky is a Twitter byproduct that exists as a community because Musk bought Twitter and killed it and now has X wear it as a skinsuit. No one is here really because they believe in the fediverse, we're here because of what happened to Twitter. This is twitter for opting out of Musk-Twitter.

An AP photo caption that inspires faith we're heading in a good direction: "Pro-government armed civilians attend a protest demanding the release of President Nicholas Maduro and first lady Cilia Flores in Caracas, Jan. 4, 2026"

Odds are that Trump was just told there’s a lot of oil there and decided his petrol buddies would love to get it but never checked with them to see if they actually want it and is now pissed hearing they aren’t grateful.

The inability of news orgs to make it clear that the MADURO REGIME IS STILL IN POWER IN VENEZUELA is going to be my villain origin story. All I can hope is that the dummies celebrating his "ouster" soon realize who is still in charge there
The U.S. capture of Venezuela’s president, Nicolás Maduro, has drawn wide-ranging reactions. Many Venezuelans celebrated the leader’s ouster. Opponents of the military operation called it illegal, with Americans taking to the streets to protest what they called an act of imperialism. trib.al/woauLUf

In a joint statement, the governments of Spain, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay condemn the 'dangerous precedent' set by the US attack on Venezuela.

Looking forward to seeing a similar statement by the EU, the UK and FIFA.

I started to listen to this and this person Natalie Kitroeff started it off by saying, "Before we start, I just want to say this was the most audacious use of US military power in a generation." It's a good thing NYC has gun control because I might have shot my iPad www.nytimes.com/2026/01/04/p...

I genuinely think the Trump admin is effed on Venezuela. I am NEVER optimistic about anything rebounding on them, either. But:

-- Maduro regime remains in place AND is being humiliated by D.C.; Venezuelans aren't going to accept that
-- Machado's supporters are livid
-- civil war a possibility

How can any MAGA follower or any Maduro-hating Venezuelan be celebrating right now when this is the headline??? All of this is so insulting

Donald Trump said Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado won't be president of Venezuela because she isn't "respected." But could the real reason Trump, who is notoriously jealous of others, won't support her is because she won the Nobel Peace Prize and he didn't?

Trump passed over Machado because she won the Nobel Peace Prize over him. The New York Times basically says as much but doesn't want to completely spell it out

Editorial writers: things are going to be so much better now that Maduro’s Vice President and *checks notes* chief of the secret police are now running things.
Hey editorial writers: why are you writing “to be sure, it’s good that Maduro is gone” when he’s NOT gone?

Tennis fans on Insta are asking the United Cup organizers if American players should no longer get to use their flags next to their names a la Russia/Belarus, since American has now also invaded a country for no reason. Fair question and extremely embarrassing to the U.S.!

I think it’s either that OR the Trump admin miscalculated and thought she’d go along.

I’d say watch for whether US oil companies are allowed to enter the country in the coming weeks. If so, that’s the ballgame

In offing Maduro but leaving the rest of the regime untouched, Trump has effectively just forced the mafia state to switch spokespeople.

Cue Delcy. Who, unlike Maduro, is often considered to be a very sophisticated political operator and in many ways has been the key regime functionary since 2013
