Republicans don’t need to know how to govern for the same reason the 9/11 hijackers didn’t need to know how to land.

guy just loves to dance

and by "dance" I mean "use public spaces to extort billions of dollars from his fellow oligarchs using the carrot of access to the most glamorous trappings of the state and the stick of threats to use the IRS and armed stormtroopers to crush those who dare resist him"

Your high cost of groceries and skyrocketing health insurance premiums will have to wait. The Jeffrey Epstein Memorial Ballroom and Bribery Emporium is the president's top priority.

Oh you're trying to say the cost of living is skyrocketing?

Donald Trump can't hear you over the sound of bulldozers demolishing a wing of the White House to build a new grand ballroom.

Most of the power authoritarians have is freely given. We should not comply with them in advance.

Trump is far weaker than he looks. So is the GOP. We should draw them out, drain them at every opportunity, and fight for people’s wellbeing at every turn.

We have been sent here to fight for people.
AOC: I think there's two things that are happening at once: One, there absolutely is an unprecedented abuse of power, destruction of norms, erosion of our government and our democracy in order to prop up an authoritarian style of governance

However, they are weaker than they look…

AND it is a very ugly sign of soul rot because it means your moral and intellectual compass is essentially outsourced to an amoral and at best superficially thoughtful elite.

You can tell yourself you're a Very Special Boy because you get invited onto all the NPR shows but. How sad for you.

Trump has functionally declared himself king. He is claiming the power to tax & spend, declare war, occupy cities & states, control if/when/how any elections occur, personally use state assets, declare guilt or innocence. Republican Congress & Supreme Court have rubber stamped his unchecked power.

Anyone who says that this is losing message needs to contend with the fact that it has been a winning message for at least 3 decades for Republicans.

It is a politically unpopular thing for Democrats to say—among Republicans, because they know it wins. It's what everyone else is thirsty for.

I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

With this vote, Congress makes ICE the highest-funded federal law enforcement agency in history, with more money per year at its disposal over the next four years than the budgets of the FBI, DEA, ATF, US Marshals, and Bureau of Prisons combined.

As America declines, it's necessary for capitalism to steal away our rights, protections, and privileges, and what MAGA is doing is shoving us into an existence where people should expect no help or protection from the government and life is expected to be brutish and short.

Truly disgusting.
This man, Judd Stone, has argued some of Texas' most evil cases in front of the Supreme Court. He defended the state's abortion bounty hunter law, sought to dismantle tribal sovereignty, and repeatedly asserted Texas' right to seize control over the southern border and immigration policy from Biden.
Just in: Texas' former solicitor general has left the AG's office amid sex misconduct allegations and a lawsuit outlining his apparent, months of detailed disclosures to colleagues about his sexual obsession with watching an asteroid anally rape the agency's No. 2 attorney in front of his kids.

Each of these is false. Most interpersonal violence is perpetrated by people who know each other, and scope of death/property crime caused by people with money/power dwarfs all other harm. Interpersonal violence is at historic lows, and all evidence shows more state repression doesn't make us safe.

The core lies shared by Dems, Reps, and the New York Times are: (1) that greatest threats we face come from poor people (especially people of color), immigrants, and strangers; (2) that violence is always increasing; (3) that state violence/repression/punishment are the solution to make us safe.

It's 2015. President Barack Obama has accepted a "sky palace" jumbo jet from the Qatari government, which he'll own after he leaves office. "Everybody relax," he says in an interview with the New York Times. Everyone does. The networks then televise the military parade in his honor on his birthday.

Reporter: The president fired the Librarian of Congress. Why?

Leavitt: There were quite concerning things she had done at the Library of Congress in the pursuit of DEI and putting inappropriate books in the library for children.
