These kinds of things happened two decades ago under the last Republican president. A lot of people made a lot of short term money. Then it all came crashing down and his successor had to clean up a huge mess. Here we go again.

Despite new EU transparency laws, researchers are still blocked from vital social media data, while corporations buy the same information freely, argues Brandon Silverman. The result: a two-tier system that shields platforms from scrutiny and weakens democratic oversight.

Brandon Silverman explains how researchers face barriers to social media data under the DSA, while corporations can buy full access.

The media trots out the "deplorable" comment from a decade ago to castigate the left. Once a week now Trump implies that the military should destroy democrats, and it is just how things are.

These damn billionaires could be investing in clean energy, gardens on roofs, and so much more to improve our lives

At least the robber barons gave us the Met, Carnegie Hall, etc

These diseased individuals who can’t seem to fill the hole in them instead spend their time/$$$ making our lives worse
I imagine @nadiawhittomemp.bsky.social will be getting the usual abuse for speaking out - solidarity with her and all those fighting against hate manipulated by the wealthy right gleefully creating a distracting wedge issue

This. @hcrichardson.bsky.social and @jbf1755.bsky.social do in a podcast what 20 years of Sunday morning shows have failed to do: discuss current events in an informed historic context and proposed actionable ways forward.

Well worth listening to.

And thank you, Professors.

Trumpers have established a secret police infrastructure in which growing fear and terror in targeted communities is the goal, not just a byproduct, of "enforcement" operations.
Read this factual local story about an ICE operation in Syracuse, N.Y. at centralcurrent.org
Local officials, citizens, and families of detainees are shut out of information and are left with little but mystery.
The government shutdown is used as an excuse.

Who knows when ICE comes to town?
When a group of men were taken from a Syracuse city street, it took nearly two weeks to know who’d grabbed them.

In the midst of all that we are facing, I want us to think about who we are being told to look to for understanding in this moment, who is being propped up as the voice of wisdom, and ask how right were they in predicting this, a year ago, 5, 8 years ago, and then ask why they are being centered now

I’ve come to believe that we need to gather considerable forces and a campaign to demand the removal of face masks by ICE, Border Patrol, FBI and police.

It is a practice in conflict with the principles of transparency & accountability that are central to the concept of democracy.

They’re wearing masks so they can’t be prosecuted later. As long as they think they can’t be prosecuted, their crimes will intensify. They will torture, starve and kill, as they have already, on greater and greater scale.

Is wearing a mask really all that hard?

I still do, and I get that it’s not ideal. But neither is getting sick or infecting the vulnerable.

Isn’t it worth that to save our babies and grandparents?

It doesn’t have to be all or nothing, every little bit counts. But certainly in crowded spaces.
Now do deaths.

It is shocking to me that despite learning that significantly less people (mostly our kids and grandparents) died in the US from the flu while we were all wearing masks, no one bothers to wear a mask.
