Now do deaths.

It is shocking to me that despite learning that significantly less people (mostly our kids and grandparents) died in the US from the flu while we were all wearing masks, no one bothers to wear a mask.

I love that he always has a playful approach to his wardrobe during high profile events. How Zac Ephron came out shirtless at the MTV awards. so the following year AS went in Jack McBrayer’s tightie whities with his tux top. And here he is at Cannes for Pillion and repping for Murderbot

Ooh, sounds delightful, added to my tbr

I’m halfway thru Patricia Lockwood’s No One IsTallking About This

It’s like nothing I’ve ever read before.

And so many snort/laugh out loud moments. Fragmented, startling, poetic. But mostly so damn funny.

Ditto this incredible cheesecake from Osteria 44 in Rome. Can’t stand cheesecake but this silky, lofty treat was like nothing I’d ever had before.

Woof. My list this past week have been a series of gut punches.

And R. F. Kuang’s Yellowface is right up there.

Cringe.

Spending my Super Bowl Sunday cooking or snuggling up by the fire and listening to this devastating story.

Mohsin Hamid’s Exit West

Any recommendations for when this is done?

So much in so little.

Orbital by Samantha Harvey

This story spans one 24 hour period in the lives of those living on the int’l space station as it is being decommissioned. Framed by the 16 orbits of earth they make in that day. Beautiful, poetic, human.

Just finished Min Jin Lee’s Pachinko - what a saga!

Sunja does what is needed time and time again to help her family survive and thrive. My heart breaks for all that this family experiences and I found myself celebrating their wins.

Been doing a good job keeping up with reading in 2025!

Really loved the audio book especially of Amor Towles’ ‘A Gentleman in Moscow.’

Such a great story, such a great listen.

Going to let it ferment a bit before I watch the adaptation with Ewan McGregor.

What’s everyone reading?

I adore my library!

I aim to read a book a week this year.

Currently enjoying Bonnie Garmus’ ‘Lessons in Chemistry’.

Love the science of cooking scattered throughout.

Any recommendations for future reads?

Thinking maybe something by Ursula Le Guin or Agatha Christie but pretty open to suggestions.

Dang! I did pot pie soup with croutons but chickened out of using the cookie cutters so cut diamonds. So much lamer than this incredible thing!

For years I’ve made socca, thin chickpea flour pancakes, top w/hummus and fresh tomatoes, arugula, olives, yum!

Now I’ve tried farinata, same recipe, started stovetop. Browned onions, poured batter in hot oiled pan, topped with onions, rosemary and kalamata.

What to do when beautiful fat snowflakes are falling and I’ve already been out for a walk and brought in a rack full of wood?

Work on my fingerless gloves, which are more desperately needed every day!
