At the #StandUpforScience rally in Chicago, one of the speakers mentioned that the most important six words are "let me tell you a story" when it comes to trying to explain why science funding is important. The idea is to explain to everyday people how the work we (scientists) do makes life better.

For thirty years I worked in the post-Soviet successor states in Central Asia and observed over and over again precisely the cycle that Bill Kristol describes. Corruption leads to authoritarianism, directly. The path is utterly predictable.

One reason why elite schools (Columbia, Brown, Cornell) caving to Trump’s illegal impoundment and extortion is so galling — a betrayal, really — is that they would have won had they fought. By giving up, they guaranteed every other school will have to fight harder.

Hi. Hello.

Founder and CEO of @standupforscience.bsky.social

I can confirm, that is not “science in its best form”…because that’s politics. Not science.
JD Vance: "Science as practiced in its best form is that if you disagree with it, then you ought to criticize it and you ought to argue against it."

Our editorial stance is kidnappings are bad. This is not Real Journalism because it's important to be neutral about atrocities
Got turned down on a piece about ICE in Chicago for an international news org because they believed I couldn’t be objective about my neighbors getting kidnapped. And well, guilty as charged I guess.

The sheer number of people Trump pardoned — 1,500+ — and the magnitude of violence many (most?) of them committed means it is statistically likely that a fair number will be revidivists, potentially for more egregious crimes. The pardons should be a top story EVERY DAY
Welcome to “justice” in Donald Trump’s America.

It’s insane to treat the filibuster as the most sacrosanct.

Article 1 power of the purse, oversight, and war? Nah.

Emoluments clauses? Bribery prohibition? Meh.

Criminal law? 14A? Doesn’t count.

But maybe the Senate changes a rule it has multiple times before? Gasp! Not that. Anything but that.

She doesn't know why. I'm getting pretty tired of bluesky moderation without explanation.

Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

Trump is holding millions of hungry families hostage, unless he can take away their health care.

Meanwhile, he’s throwing lavish parties, building a ballroom for himself, and sending $40 billion to Argentina.

It’s as sickening as it is illegal. Democrats won’t stop fighting back.
