I strongly urge you to donate and cast your vote for Dunkel in his quest to help Katie take a bite out of special interests in Ward 7.
We won't "lie down" or "roll over" for hyper-wealthy special interests. "Speak" up for a more welcoming, livable city—and tell us who you think is the cutest canine in all of Ward 7 in the process!

My long term disability claim for long COVID was denied today (through private insurance, not SSDI) and I’m feeling beyond despondent. Any other long COVID/chronic illness folks have tips for appealing or reasons I should be hopeful?

It’s so easy to think you’re invincible, until you aren’t
Disability terrifies people because it’s the only minority group that one can join. People like to stick their head in the sand about issues like their mortality and fragility. We need to get over this and accept that disability is the intersection where most social justice issues meet.

Hard to choose a quote that most resonates because there are so many gems.

“Amid all this, the emotional cost of rest is almost entirely overlooked. To rest in the context of chronic illness demands the endurance of immense grief.”

When things were in chaos on East Lake St today, three mayoral candidates (not people who currently hold that office, people running for it) showed up to help. All three are Black men who probably have a healthy fear of militarized police.

But our strong mayor, shrouded in privilege, did not.

This thought is a perfect illustration of how toxic law enforcement culture is.
I have three misc. thoughts about what happened today:

1. There seems to be absolutely no consideration within the law enforcement profession about the extent to which a militarized appearance and demeanor has disastrous consequences for public trust. For some agencies it's clearly intentional.

It has been 60 years since Minnesota experienced as little crime as it did in 2024. For the vast majority of people alive in Minnesota last year was the safest of their lives.

Keep this in mind when politicians in upcoming elections attempt to use fear to get you to vote for them!

Don't think there is a better illustration of AI-in-everything-whether-we-want-it-or-not than an AI bro buying an AI toy for his child who played with it for a bit and then seemed singularly unimpressed with the AI and turned it off.
He keeps turning it back on, and she keeps turning it off.

I’ve never been an anti-Zionist Jew, nor have I been an unconditional cheerleader. The last 14 months have left me feeling more disconnected than ever. The inability of many Jews/Jewish institutions in America to recognize Israeli actions for what they are is deeply shameful.
Joelle Novey:
"When so many Jews & Jewish institutions get into arguments about the words that people use to describe the carnage in Gaza, it makes me feel like I wasn’t in the same religion I thought I was... I don’t know how else to say it more gently: our once-sacred places are covered in blood."

I love being able to raise the next generation of library lovers
I have always loved public libraries, but having young children has exponentially increased my gratitude and sense of indebtedness to them. Our local library is such a huge part of our lives. The books, the programming, the very intentionally curated kids’ section. It’s all such a gift.
