A piece I wrote about having a nature deprived childhood.
There don’t seem to be enough articles about working class childhoods which were just a bit dull because you didn’t get out much , and family members were not very enthusiastic.
But you did have picture books of stuffed birds.😊

Now my kids are a little older it's lovely that I can introduce them to the classics, AA Milne, JM Barrie, E Nesbit, and together we can enjoy the experience of not having the first fucking idea what anybody is talking about.

Got a very irate comment yesterday about not doing a Quiet Riot on this, told we "missed the boat" while others had put out emergency eps. So, I listened to a couple. They contained minimum insight and maximum outrage. I'm PROUD we took 12 extra hours to get a guest who actually knows their onions.
As promised, a special episode on Venezuela, with the former UK ambassador in Caracas, which contains actual insight and expertise, rather than just commentators going "oh dear". A x
🚨🚨EMERGENCY EPISODE🚨🚨
Very few people can claim to have met and known 🇻🇪's Maduro, Chavez & interim president Delcy Rodriguez. Well, my guest @catheriner.bsky.social, former 🇬🇧 ambassador in Caracas, is one of them and she spoke to me earlier today.

Rutger is looking for suitable candidates interested in getting a PhD on the interface of soil biodiversity and plant ecology in the face of changing climates. Rutger is a great ecologist, botanist and allround good dude in a nice lab and a great part of Germany, so this is a nice opportunity!
Two advertisements for PhD projects in our group at @uni-konstanz.de, including one in my recently funded project on the role of soil biodiversity in plant responses to drought. Deadline on January 12th. Sharing would be appreciated! More info here: www.biologie.uni-konstanz.de/kleunen/news...

Reading a new biography of Katherine Mansfield and am surprised at myself for author quibbling with the description of Zennor being just outside St Ives.

Whenever I visit I walk along the coastal path, which might have affected my perception 😊

Looked for a peer-reviewed piece of scientific research to back up this blanket claim that LTNs cause more pollution not less.

In fact this is a typical hit piece from the Times, which looks at one LTN, that hasn't even started yet. The "analysis", done by The Times hacks, isn't worth a jot.

Herondipity - the faculty or phenomenon of finding heron moments not sought for.
A heron came into the frame just as I snapped this photo of the tree's reflection. Pretty generous of him, I think. #landscape #photography #nicomekl #Surrey #BC
