I hadn’t even heard of Mattheissen’s Wildlife in America, which was as influential on the conservation movements as Silent Spring.

Finding the biography of Peter Mattheissen difficult to resist and it has got me wondering why, as a working class oik from Milton Keynes I was so early drawn to writers from Rhode Island🤔
