OpenAI pirated large numbers of books and used them to train models.
OpenAI then deleted the dataset with the pirated books, and employees sent each other messages about doing so.
A lawsuit could now force the company to pay $150,000 per book, adding up to billions in damages.

I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.
certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

I don't know if this is right or not (I doubt it) but it does make me think that more people staying in is the last thing society needs. Between the internet, cost of living and the legacy of lockdown, we have a leaving-the-house crisis that manifests in everything from mental health to politics
Former cinema manager here. Chain cinemas will mostly close and independent cinemas will die out completely in the next couple decades. The costs are just not worth it. It's far too convenient and cheaper to watch films at home.

Whenever someone is in the news because everyone hates them because they have done something terrible I start feeling sorry for them and wish people would stop kicking them while they're down. This is regardless of the terribleness of the things they have done.

It should also go without saying: don’t actively be a dick to dogs. Worf & Chewie are especially loathsome of Hallowe’en because of two separate incidents with fireworks, at least one of which was deliberate (and over a week after the night itself).

Since Friday I have been blown to pieces by a mis-thrown stick of dynamite, strung up by angry townsfolk, engulfed in an explosion that destroyed my spaceship, and transformed into a fur-covered recluse with rats for his only friends. The joys of attending a games convention.

This is not apropos of anything specific, except I’ve watched a couple of friends go through it lately: if you can’t make at the last minute to a large party, eg a book launch, do not contact the host to tell them. The host spends the day receiving 20-30 cancellations & panics that no one is coming
