What was it really like growing up in the 1960s and 70s, in a northern mill town? ! This was the start of the space age and the advent of the swinging 60s, of the Beatles, and the Moon landing. My memoir of those times has been published. Available from Amazon and other bookshops.

We had plenty of milk & eggs for the morning shift - with even more eggs donated. There should be plenty for tonight. All of our local grocery stores have generously donated meat, bread, bakery items, produce, prepared meals and so much more❤️

The finale of the great TV comedy show Blackadder goes Forth.
Back then I didn't expect one of the funniest programmes ever to end with a scene that makes me cry every time I see it.
Every single time.

How's this anti fly tipping scheme going? Any updates?
Alternatively you could fund councils to provide regular bin collections and have good local recycling and waste disposal facilities.

@0-0-5-1.bsky.social this is an odd profile, registered 22/8/25 and already following >47.4K accounts.
It followed me, but I'm blocking as it serves only to drive traffic to external sites.

Once, my mentor told me to remember that my unqualified, misogynist/racist supervisor loved his family, so I should try to have a more generous and open attitude toward him.

My career became much easier to navigate once I shed that boss, ditched my mentor, and saved generosity for non-bigots.

True dat. Look after your supporters and let your haters look after themselves. if the #BBC would only realise that it's in their best interests to cherish the people who actually don't mind being forced by law to pay for their keep, instead of behaving like a bunch of gilded entitlocrats...
Gary Lineker: "This is the mistake the BBC makes. The BBC tries to appease the people that hate the BBC, rather than worrying about the people that love the BBC."

‘Starmer hopes lifting the 2-child cap will cheer up his unhappy MPs’

Not lift families out of poverty
Not help the poor and vulnerable
Not improve people’s lives

CHEER UP HIS UNHAPPY MPS
In September, HuffPost UK revealed Starmer had decided the 2-child benefit cap must go.

One MP says: “It’s a recognition that we need to show some kind of progressive inclination, and presumably to try and cool the leadership talk.”

Wall Street will collapse up its own hole.

It needs putting back in its box America 😂
If Wall Street threatens Mamdani-style reforms with a capital strike, organized labor can fight back—history shows how banks killed NYC’s progressive plans in 1975, so unions must prepare to counter similar opposition now.

Let’s study how Wall Street sank Mamdani-style municipal plans back in 1975 — and get prepared for a similar fight.

Absolutely obscene that a complaint about poor treatment can get vulnerable people evicted from care homes.

Where's the humanity gone?
7,261 elderly/vulnerable people in care homes given ‘notice to quit’.

Major reason: "revenge evictions’. people “threatened with eviction as a result of raising a complaint"

Care homes are mostly in the private sector, owned by corporations and private equity, profit margins of up to 40%.
Revealed: Thousands of elderly people evicted from care homes every year
Thousands of elderly and vulnerable people have received eviction notices from their care homes in the last year, the Big Issue has found.
