When you ask voters to choose between corporate profits and protecting our neighbors – it’s not even close. This year, Seattle voters chose the tax corporations to fund social housing (63%) and to pass the Seattle Shield Initiative to protect our neighbors (71%). Let’s keep it going!

This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.

Hard agree
I don’t know that Seattle understands how lucky we are to have the urban design and land-use policy thinktank that is Mike Eliason, and also to have him on the Social Housing Developer
i am cleaning up files and ran across my public comment on the comprehensive plan EIS scoping report (from 2022!), and man...

i cannot express what a massively wasted opportunity and exercise harrell's comp plan update has been.

You can't end homelessness without housing.

Portland's Mayor removed the expert leading us toward proven solutions (social housing = what works in Vienna).

The City Council voted unanimously for this work. Our community deserves better.

This is why @houseourneighbors.bsky.social created the Seattle Social Housing Developer with a legal requirement for all units to be owned by the public in perpetuity and permanently affordable for all residents.
Since the LIHTC program was created in 1986, the number of LIHTC units has risen every year as the program has become the major generator of affordable housing in the US.

Because of affordability expiration, however, the number of LIHTC units is expected to begin falling over the next decade.

France, with its cost rental system, produces essentially the same number of units as LIHTC despite having a 1/5 of America’s population and providing much lower subsidies.
