The 13thC wall paintings at St John the Baptist, Cold Overton are fragmentary but still fascinating.
This is a such an unusual depiction of the nativity with Christ in the oddest manger, raised up as if it's sprouted in the night, the animals look rather surprised!

Since 1999, St Ellyw's, Llanelieu has been in our care. This small church is noted for its breathtaking 14th century rood screen and loft.

Recently I visited the extraordinary St Luke, Gaddesby, Leics. The southern and western frontage of the south aisle concludes in a chapel to an unknown person/people and has an incongruous 'collar'. Note the window is out of synch with the niche and how the entire porch is moved on the south side.

Just descended from the top of North Berwick Law, which gave me the chance (eagerly seized) to tell my wife about the word 'law' – no relation to the legal word, but rather from Old English hlǣw 'mound'. That makes it an English/Scots word with a 'lost H', as discussed in a recent article...

Old doors are always fascinating. The ironwork on this door at Kempley, Glos, includes split curl straps (i.e. the C shape has an iron band extending from its centre) and date from the 12th Century.
