I appreciate that this dedicated bakery mentioned in the article is called « Les éclaireurs » (the ´outriders’, but both reminding of the verb « éclairer » and of the pastry) - quite a smart pun 💡

It seems like it originally was a fish shop, before being transformed into a fish restaurant, with the ‘P’ changed (poorly, imo) in a ‘B’ 🐟

“My drawing was not a picture of a hat. It was a picture of a boa constrictor digesting an elephant. I drew the inside of a boa constrictor, so that the grown-ups could see it clearly. They always need to have things explained.”

“Poems aren’t just a bridge to history, they connect us intimately with the emotions and experiences of those who lived it.”
“We listen in on distant griefs, share laughter, re-kindle old anger, draw breath alongside companions from centuries long gone in awe and wonder.”

Invariably, “the first thing that pops into my mind after reading the word "newt" is the character of Gussie Fink-Nottle”, as rightly underlined by Susan Joy Clark on Goodreads :

“Neenton chest is in the earlier Pevsner, later versions cover less portable stuff to deter theft. Though I reckon early c16 is a more likely date for this one.”

Maybe some of the references in Jane Geddes’s book (chapter 5 : The construction of medieval chests) could be a start ? In her notes, she often refers to Eames : Medieval furniture (1977) and to Fletcher and Tapper’s article : “Medieval artefacts and structures dated by dendrochronology” (1984)

“Give me my soul again” reminds me of this poem :
#graffiti

« Viens, dis, mon unique objet de mon âme,
Viens, divin sujet de ma flamme
Me donner quelque réconfort.
Rends-moi la moitié de ma vie
Que ton absence m'a ravie
Ou je donnerai l'autre à la mort. »

Grand ! 👏
In the meantime, you can look up the digital version of the manuscript on the site of le château de Chantilly, including very detailed descriptions and explanations of the illuminations 🔎

Thank you very much !
Yes, pouches from “Papa pique et Maman coud”.
The linen pouch for the blue bird is intertwined with a silver thread, the butterfly one, with golden thread.
A disposable canvas was necessary to do the embroidery ^^’
