I am currently sitting in my local clinic as an emergency walk-in. I will be seen for free. Any medication prescribed will be less than 15€ a box, and more likely, less than 1€. Follow-ups are free. All of this is supported by a tiny percentage of my tax dollars.

I'm so sorry. Y'all deserve better.

While they’re still screwing about with SNAP, it’s a good idea to donate to pet shelters, too.

If you dare show up with “poor people shouldn’t have pets”, I will tear such a new one it generates a black hole.

Families on SNAP worry about not just feeding themselves but also their pets
With SNAP benefits going out late, nonprofits are begging for pet food donations to prevent desperate owners from surrendering their dogs and cats to animal shelters.

“What was once a reliable, repeatable pillar of her life was ripped away from her, first because she felt like an outlier among her peers, and then..the powers that be took away her right to be on the team.” The government has “targeted the fundamental social pillars upholding trans lives”. so cruel
For @teenvogue.com I wrote about the death of trans athlete Lia Smith and how trans youth kind themselves with central pillars of their lives being constantly ripped away from them because of politics. www.teenvogue.com/story/politi...
Politicizing Transgender Athletes Is Dangerous. Lia Smith Deserved Better.
"Let her passing be an inflection point for how you think about trans rights and trans people more generally."

4 hours by train to Girona to see Rigoberta Bandini. It was abso-fucking-lutely worth it. Would have crawled over broken glass, in fact.

Being a historical fiction author is typing "she lit a candle" and then staring into the abyss as your face melts off like a Nazi at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Being a fantasy writer is typing "they extended an olive branch" and then going "shit, do they even have olives in this world?"

As traumatizing as it was to watch the Challenger disaster on live TV as a five year old I must admit it would have been 10,000x more traumatizing if Big Bird had been on it.

The enshittification will continue until we have basically recreated Twitter.
Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

Honestly one of the worst, most disturbing paragraphs — on the basis of process, substance, and effect — I’ve read in a Supreme Court order or opinion in a very long time.

These stories just get more & more sinister.

What does it mean to have a "humanlike interaction" with something that lacks actual humanity? A thing without empathy or compassion, past or future? A thing without any stake in the real world?

The Devil doesn't exist, so we had to create him.

Very helpful info. And let's face it, my potty-mouth has probably put me in the naughty box many times on here, even when I'm not technically being "rude," just extremely passionate.
If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

The thing to understand about the wave of transphobia plaguing our politics right now is that it does not nourish itself on the hatreds of ordinary voters. It nourishes on their indifference.

Zohran showed up for trans people this cycle. Not just literally showing up on TDOV, but making videos about our history, acknowledging the work that's still to do, and vocalizing actual support and policies to protect us.
This needs more attention: Zohran SPLIT the straights with Cuomo. ALL of his margin was from LGBTQ+ voters. Every Dem who ever said “we should abandon the transes” needs this shoved down their fucking throat with a ramrod.

Oh look at that - my old elementary school, where I got accused of being a devil worshipper by my 5th grade teacher because I liked Ghostbusters, decided not to suck last night. Good on yer, Rams.
Pine-Richland Schools (PA), which have dealt with nonstop book and curriculum censorship, just saw its board flip over to progressive representation.

It's time to get over the shock and the scapegoating of November 2024. The reality is--as it has always been--that the existence of transgender people is not a drag on the Democratic Party. We have yet more indefatigable proof of this point. Lock in and win.
