Is it just me or has the phrase "comes from a place of immense privilege" been co-opted by the immensely privileged to mean "how dare you point and laugh at my obvious nakedness you lowly plebe???"
How can anyone know what people “implicitly added” in their heads? And how does them rationalizing the literal words being told to them make it not true that they voted on the words?

Once when I was employed to sit and watch an empty building an elderly woman wearing a cow onesie wandered in to use the bathroom and I had to help her out of and back into her onesie. Never received any explanation other than "I just like it. It's comfortable, and no one else is wearing one."
Please quote this with stories of your minor interactions with non-celebrities, e.g. “I once accidentally bumped into a man in the Wellingborough branch of Holland & Barrett”

I really hope anyone out there who has chosen not to meddle in the so-called "Trans Debate" either way does not miss the use of the word "KILL" here. Bc it is absolutely about killing people. Not "ideologies" - people.

No one with a conscience can afford to sit this out.
Again: they thought they’d win a shattering court victory with the Harry Potter lady’s money, then the public would rise up in gratitude, salute them as heroes and stomp all over transgender people on their behalf. That hasn’t happened, because the public mostly aren’t vicious cranks, like they are.

they have designed these machines to simulate human agents and they are constantly pitching the idea that these machines really *are* agents, but when one of these machines kills a person they say “you can’t hold them to account, they’re just machines, read the instructions”
In case you needed one more reason not to use AI …

The CEO of ChatGPT is blaming a teen’s suicide on his failure to follow the terms of service:

Adam Raine, 16, told ChatGPT he was suicidal and the AI bot told him his feelings were valid and even provided suggestions and detailed instructions.
OpenAI says teen's 'misuse' of ChatGPT is to blame for his suicide, because he broke the TOU: 'Users must comply with OpenAI's Usage Policies, which prohibit the use of ChatGPT for suicide or self-har...
The lawyer presenting Adam Raine's family calls the response "disturbing" and I have to agree.

modesty laws prevented showing even one lousy frame of John Waters' PINK FLAMINGOS (1972) in the trailer, so the only footage in it is of people reacting to a screening they just came out of. every single type of extant queer person is contained in the specific sequences I have selected here

Yeah, no thanks.

Stop guilting people about being estranged from family members. It someone is they likely have personal reasons for being so.

You simply cannot have a level of wealth inequality, where someone can be paid to by billionaires this much to be a bigot, and have democracy.

It isn't possible.
Anti-trans demagogue and fifth place swimmer Riley Gaines earned $470,000+ last year from a conservative non-profit.

Notably, $420k was incentive-based.

A neat little window into the way the transphobic grift is being compensated.

I wonder what the per-post rate is?

This book sounds incredible!
'Though completely eclipsed by Don Quixote, Cristalián de España, which was first published in 1545, has a unique claim to fame. Its 800 pages, bristling with swords, sorcerers, dragons and damsels, make up the earliest known work by a female Spanish novelist.' 1/2

When you turn your hand to writing historical fiction later in life those 700 word footnotes will turn into 7 pages of description/ exposition/ world-building which you will also later delete AND YOU WILL DO IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN till your 200k word mss is a 100k word novel.
The whole point of being an academic is that you need to be willing to spend three days creating a 700-word footnote that you will later delete. And you need to LIKE IT.
