This thread is such a great example about critical thinking with data. You found a weird correlation you can't explain. Interesting. Now what?

A great illustration of Ben Franklin's maxim: To succeed, jump as quickly at opportunities as you do at conclusions.

“They’re taking our jobs” was always a lie. Alabama proved it.

Alabama tried a “tough” immigration law, and it backfired hard. Immigrants fled, crops rotted, and farms collapsed. Americans tried to step in but couldn’t last a day.

They’re not taking your jobs; they’re doing the jobs you won’t do.

Yes, oh my god, if the Dems actually took the initiative on this!!!
If Trump and RFK are going to rip the country in half over public health, Dems should polarize the living heck out of this debate on their own terms.

Scour the law for as many ways as possible to protect your people from Trump/RFK's reign of mass destruction.

It's literally a vital feature of both science and of representative democracy.

I've written a fair bit about trust in expertise as a vital mechanism in the collective epistemology of science.

Grossly irresponsible of the Times to have this ludicrous credulous spin as the top story the morning after a president who rules by fiat proclaims a totally specious emergency to militarize the capital - an editorial insult to our intelligence and our democracy.

Google Gemini users said the bot is sharing self-loathing messages while attempting to solve tasks, including "I am a disgrace to this universe."

So my workers' comp cases here in Georgia proceed just as they always have. The rules still apply and function as before. Same could be said for the vast

I have always believed this.

But too many people believe that people in need undeservedly get "something for nothing" instead of counting their blessings and realizing that they, too, could wind up there.

Compassionate solutions are more practical and are cost effective. It's called a win-win.
Many, many, MANY studies show that the cumulative costs of harassing homeless people—cops, prison, jail, etc—are much more expensive than just housing them and providing income, and that doing those things helps people get to the point where they’re not in crisis any longer.

We choose cruelty.

Ex-farm worker here.

We need to talk about this whole "But a living wage for farm workers would spike the cost of food!" thing.

Not true AT ALL.

Y'all don't understand how fast experienced farm workers are.

The average tomato picker pulls 650lbs per hour.

At $20/hr, that's $0.03/lb for labor.
