My son took this at Pompeii. I love the composition, the frame, the mysterious quality of the image.
To me it speaks of time, passing moments

Used to serve fish, with a depression to hold a dish for perhaps a sauce.

What about the things Trump has said about London, Khan and Sharia Law. Surely they are libellous ?

Whoever thinks Wes Streeting would make a good PM is deluded. The trouble is any viable candidates have been written out of Starmer’s carefully curated front bench and made generally invisible

Of all the wonderful creations of Paula Rego I saw this morning at Norwich Castle, this masterpiece has really stayed with me. Her ability to find inspiration in nursery rhymes - here, “Hey Diddle Diddle” - just amazes me.

If this period of extreme right wing populism ends we must urgently look at our education systems. It has never been more important that young people are encouraged to think critically. We must challenge lauding of ignorance, the rejection of expertise and knowledge. We must invest in learning

The irony of Trump dismissing the Epstein files as a “hoax”, usurping the power of Congress, and trampling on the DOJ’s independence is that any attempt to stop the release of files only adds to the appearance of a cover up.

Trump's desire for control could be his undoing.

Luxurious duck-shaped vessel carved from a single piece of rock crystal around 3,500 years ago!

From Bronze Age Mycenae, it is said to be an exquisite example of imported Minoan stoneworking. Probably used to hold oils or cosmetics.

Labour should be defending the BBC. A mistake was made, but despite being politicised by Tory infiltration in recent years, they still provide a great service. This passivity in the face of fascistic Trump and Farage is pathetic. We will go the way of the US if we don’t defend our institutions

He created this mosaic, seemingly covered with scraps of food from a banquet, for the dining room of a villa on the Aventine Hill in Rome. Read more: understandingrome.substack.com/p/the-unswep...
