I know a lot of people were skeptical about the Tisch pick, and for good reason, but this is promising
So much is going on, but this week New Yorkers are getting to see how a protest is treated under a Mamdani administration
Anti-ICE march in lower Manhattan is moving north, destination unknown.

Looks to be about a thousand people.

This march does not have a permit, and used amplified sound at the rally with no issues. A notable shift from the Adams admin that directed NYPD to nitpick.

but my feed is full of media outlets describing a woman with a very-much-living-and-in-the-picture wife first and foremost as though she was a man's widow, and I just

So so so much respect to the local journos covering this, but saying “ex-husband” and then using the phrase “current partner” instead of “wife” or even spouse is disrespectful.

Don’t describe the same type of relationship two different ways just cause the gender is different.

Okay but here’s the thing: no one “took the bait” earlier today and someone still ended up dead.
TIM WALZ: Do not take the bait. Do not take the bait. Do not allow them to invoke the Insurrection Act. Do not allow them to invoke martial law.

ICE observers in the Twin Cities are in need of dash cams to prevent further intimidation and frivolous claims.

Cams are $110, memory cards $35, and ship to us directly via this wish list: www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/...

If you've been looking for a way to help, we'd sure appreciate it!

for once i am going to say: read the comments, because there are smart people discussing this complex issue there.

I generally agree that 230 should not protect most generative AI outputs because the company itself is "speaking" in response to user prompt, or at least "materially contributing"
Has a court ruled on whether, under Section 230, a web site’s AI generating content based on a user prompt is treated as the web site’s speech? Seems to me it should be, just as if the site operator published speech answering someone’s question.

I am not a Section 230 expert but being that Twitter is creating and publishing these photos I wonder if they actually have any civil legal protection? @kenwhite.bsky.social ? @akivamcohen.bsky.social ?

AI has somehow managed to make recipe websites even more unhinged. I do not need two sentences explaining “vanilla extract adds warmth and depth of flavor” to my snickerdoodles!!!!

So do we think Mamdani’s speechwriter writes the food references in for him or are all of the margin notes just like “bagel + lox” and “biryani”

So Eric Adams heard the phrase “crypto Jews” in passing and just fundamentally misunderstood, right?
Maybe Adams has legitimately stumbled on an ingenious way of combining two of the longest-running preoccupations of his mayoral term... or maybe, true to form, he's profoundly full of it.
Eric Adams Says His Next Gig Is Fighting Antisemitism With Cryptocurrency
How? Don't ask.

This is all you need to know about my gender: I refer to myself as my dog’s dad, except when Christmas sweaters come up. Then I’m my dog’s biological mother and my Jewish child will NOT be put in a Christmas sweater, thank you very much.
