From a student today: "Unfortunately my laptop broke and I don’t have an iPad or anything else I can use so I won’t be coming to class today."
Apparently a broken laptop is akin to a broken leg or something? I suggested that the student come to class with, perhaps, some paper and a pen.

Yes, this is how we did things for years. Govt spent money on infra and other important stuff, and the Govt debt became the super safe savings of the private sector (paying a very low return that reflected virtually zero default risk).

Beef: it's destroying the earth. You should eat less of it, or none.

This conclusion is backed by *mountains* of evidence, but man, people hate it.

2040 historians will look back at 2020-2025 and be confused why everyone was so confident about everything.

"They had 3 years of data on this technology and wrote 10,000-word manifestos on its inevitable trajectory?"

Yeah, we were all doing that. It felt normal at the time.

3. Our current economic settings and huge wealth gap leads to civil disobedience and people feeling disaffected. Petty crime, shoplifting etc are all symptoms of that.

Caught the Springsteen movie last night. It’s a solid, if uninspiring portrayal of the Boss’s recording of the Nebraska album. A lot of Bruce wrestling with his demons, flashbacks to his contrasting relationships with his parents & tensions with his record company. #FilmSky

I have just discovered that the actor who plays Bruce’s mother also played Maizy Russell the youngest daughter in Uncle Buck. Now I feel very old 😬

The electric Nebraska version of Atlantic city is great and basically what Bruce plays live, but the cassette tape version is maybe the greatest song ever recorded.

Also, we will be rebuilding climate-shattered and futureless places with our public funds long after it makes no rational sense to do so, because this "disaster industrial complex" makes more money slapping up cheap rebuilds than it would make building rugged communities in relatively safe places.

Many things are changing before our eyes. Others are harder to see

Like the US economy

Americans are spending more 💲 recovering from disasters and preparing for the next one. 36% of US GDP growth since 2000 is related to climate disasters.

Also good to see new public realm underway in Mercury Lane.

The original CRL plan reinstated southbound through-traffic right outside a 🚇 station entrance :(

This is better.#CRL
