Bluesky is THE platform for science. It’s also THE platform for city-building and urbanism.
Bluesky is the new science Twitter, new study by @whysharksmatter.bsky.social and Julia Wester concludes!

"Results show that for every reported professional benefit that scientists once gained from Twitter, scientists can now gain that benefit more effectively on Bluesky than on Twitter."
Scientists no Longer Find Twitter Professionally Useful, and have Switched to Bluesky
Synopsis. Social media has become widely used by the scientific community for a variety of professional uses, including networking and public outreach. For

This time in Papatoetoe with Tim Tams being installed on the Great South Road from Te Irirangi Drive to Central Avenue

Modern housing in Amsterdam: apartments on the left, a wide footway with rain-retaining greenery, and a wide bidirectional cycleway with priority over cars entering the development. Trees, bins, cycle parking and furniture collection spots separate it from the road, helping prevent fly-tipping.

UNBELIEVABLE! 🤯

Luxon’s idiotic fossil gas terminal will bypass even the fast-track process so that construction can start before the election.

Let that sink in.

How good? Lots of people taking the opportunity to use the free busses to George Street Market. 7,500 trips (instead of 4,000 on a normal Saturday).

People who might drive all the time have possibly taken the bus for the first time.

Transport choices matter.

Heard in the office🫠

Colleague;
“A Wellington friend came over to send his daughter off to University and dove into the ocean. He reckoned the water was warmer than in Wellington”…. He responded to his friend with; “You must’ve been in a warm spot” 😂😂

There are no immutable rules keeping streets like this in Europe. Our urban environment is a reflection of what we commit to build. We don't have to let cars sterilize our landscape. It's a choice.

Well-designed cities create space for community right where people live. Connection shouldn't be a destination you have to drive to, pay for, or schedule. It should be right outside your door.

The lecture “The crisis of human collective decision-making in a social media world” by Prof. Carl Bergstrom, (University of Washington) @ Otago Uni was very interesting.

Dis/misinformation in the current world of AI slop and the effect it also in democratic processses is significant.

Green Party Co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick said the government was guaranteeing added costs to New Zealanders, while relying on "hopes, wishes, and prayers" for future savings.

"Profits are flowing offshore, while New Zealanders are paying handsomely for it."
Hipkins dismissed questions over whether Labour would terminate any agreements, or put the costs onto the energy companies and take away the levy on households, as "hypothetical"
