In our time, the banality of evil-doing is exceptionally evident in the mediocrity (utterly virtue-deficient!) of those wielding great power & the pathetic sycophancy of those sustaining/flattering them & obeying their orders.
Thus has it ever been!
Like their predecessors, these too shall pass!

Excellent, thought-provoking article.
A Lonerganian perspective suggests that things may get better (<- shorter cycles of crises & recoveries)) before, inevitably, they get worse (<- a longer cycle of decline, due to generalised biases). Ultimately, God's redemptive grace offers grounds for hope!

I imagine all/most U.S. seminarians (a) already have the Liturgy of the Hours, or (b) have means to acquire a copy (via family, dioceses, etc.).
Bp. Barron says money came from "a generous donor".
I can think of more Gospel-inspired uses for that donation!

Word on Fire to provide new Liturgy of the Hours to every seminarian in the U.S.
Seminarians across the U.S. will receive the new Liturgy of the Hours at no cost.

Dylan immortalised villains like William Zanzinger (in 'The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll') and Alfred Bello & Arthur Dexter Bradley (in 'Hurricane').
Springsteen has now guaranteed that the dark deeds of Trump, Miller & Noem will be remembered long after they depart this world. Some legacy!

Bishop Taylor (Little Rock, Arkansas):
"The United States is not Germany in the 1930s. But it is sobering to see similar patterns reemerging from that fateful decade. ... And we have reason to work to shore up our democracy before it is too late."

The fact that Homan can be presented as a milder alternative to Bovino only serves to confirm the extremist mindset of Trump & followers.
This individual was a leading cheerleader for separating immigrant children from their parents.

Tom Homan is supposed to fix Trump's Minnesota crisis. His record raises serious questions.
The White House border czar is no moderate.

Dialogue & dissent are not mutually exclusive.
But dialogue, if authentic, must always be based on truth.
In any meeting with Trump, USCCB President Archbishop Coakley should 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫.
And he should avoid posing for photos that give the false impression that there is much to smile about!

Jesus famously proclaimed, "No one can serve two masters." As the country continues to reel from the shooting of Alex Pretti, Catholics are making it clear who they are choosing to serve. It isn't always Jesus, says digital editor John Grosso.

Calls by U.S. bishops for Catholics to pray about the horrendous situation in Minneapolis and other besieged cities are good and necessary.
But it can't stop there! Prayer should be part of discerning what God wants faith-filled individuals and communities to 𝐃𝐎!
