40s, late diagnosed AuDHD ♾️
Trying to be positive and look on the bright side of everything
I also often feel like I'm relating best by sharing a similar story or what something reminds me of.
I’m autistic and I love it when people not only listen, but bring out a similar story/situation about themselves. Not only does it help me bond with others who are autistic, but it also makes me feel understood even if it's just a little bit and a little less alone.

Excellent way of putting this:
I'm calling this group of hypotheses "model trains cause autism," statistical connections that really just boil down to "autistic parents have autistic kids"

I'm #AuDHD. I've been going to the dentist regularly because every appt they schedule the next one. Had to cancel due to a conflict &they said, "call us when you're free that day to see if we have a cancellation!" I think I'm never getting teeth cleaned again...I don't have that executive function.

Hey #autistic and #ADHD and #AuDHD friends: what do you wish your boss/coworkers understood better about #neurodiversity? I'm giving a talk to dozens of employers and have the opportunity to educate them on making workplaces safer and more welcome to ND people. Please comment/repost widely?

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

I just realized something about my #autistic self.
I'm so terrified of not being perceived as "getting the joke" that I start laughing every time someone makes a laugh-adjacent sound so I am "sharing the joke" but - sometimes I misperceive and find myself laughing uproariously while someone coughs.

I do this too! 🥰
Things I like about being autistic:
1) playing a song over and over
2) playing a song over and over
3) playing a song over and over

Forgot to mention, playing a song over and over. It just feels so right and warm inside to do this.

("What's something you wish you knew about #autism when you were first diagnosed?")
That the spectrum is as wide as it is. That my autistic doesn't have to - and won't ever - exactly match someone else's, and it doesn't make either of ours less valid or less autistic.

Parenting is the hardest, most exhausting and demanding and brutal commitment anyone ever makes.

That's it, that's the post. There's no rainbow, there's no silver lining.

Was this the best use of my time today? No. Is it the most amusing way I could have spent the last 90 minutes? Absolutely. Pattern is free here: bit.ly/4nGGCGc

Memes are for sure my love language!
Autistic ways of saying “I love you” (that you might miss):

- “I researched your problem. Here are your options”

- “I made a spreadsheet/ list/ plan to help you”

- being ourselves around you (infodumping, not masking etc)

- “Here’s a meme that I think you’d like”

Today's #Autistic joys:
Spending time with a true friend I never have to mask with
Feeling cared about by coworkers
Helping my daughter when she needed me
Warm purring cat on my lap

Finding out you’re autistic isn’t a personality update.

It has potential for a full nervous-system rewrite.

Your past starts making sense in real time.

Your future suddenly feels negotiable.

And you finally stop apologising for being built differently.

And this makes HUGE changes to YOU.

#AutChat is a tag for autistic people & "autistic cousins" (people with similar experiences due to hydrocephalus, cerebral palsy, ADHD, etc).

We welcome autistic/similar people whether formally diagnosed, self-diagnosed, or questioning/wondering if they are autistic/similar.

A2:
I'd say that a pro of me not having one is not being on RFK Jr's hit list, formally.
And, I'm autistic whether I'm diagnosed or not. Diagnosis doesn't alter who I am.
That said, diagnosing myself was affirming.
#AutChat
Q2: If you have a formal diagnosis, has it helped you? How?

If you don’t have a formal diagnosis, are there pros for you of not having one? #AutChat

A1: oh this is bitter for me. I tried to get an autism diagnosis but the Dr told me "it's basically impossible to diagnose autism for women over 40" before we even really started, so. No diagnosis.
And not going to try again.
Q1: Do you have a formal diagnosis? If so, what led you to get one? (Or was it a surprise?)

If you don’t have a formal diagnosis, have you considered getting one? Why or why not? #AutChat
