Young, autistic and ADHD: moving into adulthood when you’re multiply neurodivergent.

Growing up unknowingly AuDHD was more difficult than it should have been. So I wrote a book about all the things I needed to know for this generation of AuDHDers to benefit from! ⬇️

Something about my experience of AuDHD is that I don’t relate as much to needing routines compared to many autistics.

I know routines would make things easier, but ADHD often means I can’t stick to them, and I find the idea of them overwhelming.

It’s my favourite week of the year where I live because half the neighbours still have their Halloween decs up, and half are putting up their Christmas lights.

It always makes me laugh walking around my local area, having the roads be a mixture of Christmas and Halloween. 😂

What’s something you wish you knew about autism when you first discovered you were autistic?

Trying meet your sensory needs can be expensive….

Autistics

I need new duvet covers/pillow cases.

I found ones I like that are muslin but I’ve never had this material for bedding before.

If you have/had Muslin bedding can you tell me your views from a sensory point of view before I potentially buy?

Thanks.

So I was just thinking about my cat and how much I love him. Before I knew it, he then jumped out of nowhere and onto my lap, wanting cuddles.

Honestly, I wouldn’t trade this for the world! 🐈‍⬛

"Not only does it expose what’s wrong with marginalising neurodivergent people, but also how powerful and transformative acceptance can be for our quality of life and self-worth".

My Review of the new film 'I Swear' ⬇️

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Why ‘I Swear’ is a vital film for neurodivergent acceptance
TW: Suicide ‘I Swear’ was different.  Often, when it comes to media representation of neurodivergence, there’s a lot left to be desired. Usually, it is based on misinformed and outdated tropes…

I don’t trust anybody who self-declares as ‘neuro-affirming’.

It’s fine if other ND people have engaged with their content/products/services and found it ‘neuro-affirming’.

I’ve seen too many examples where people claimed this while still being ableist towards neurodivergent people.

Autistics, how are your interests that everyone else thought were just “phases” holding up now?

Decades later many of them are still going strong for me 😂

Sometimes I think to myself “I’ve come so far when it comes to my personal acceptance of my disabilities”.

Until I’m in a situation where I feel embarrassed about asking for additional support. 🫠

‘I Swear’ film is probably one of the best I’ve watched about neurodivergence for a while.

Being able to say NO can be truly liberating when you haven't always felt safe to say no previously.

If I’m viewed as ‘mildly autistic’ then that’s their perception, which is very different from my daily reality….
