20+ years ago, a friend gave me an MP3 player (now long gone) with a bunch of music on it. There is one song I’ve never been able to find anywhere else, and the friend doesn’t remember it. 1/2

re: roblox dude's interview crashout. the thing he wants to say but can't is "at scale, kids are gonna get hurt. that is the price for scale." the thing nobody wants to say out loud is "maybe scaling to a level where harm isn't manageable is bad, and scale should be contained"

Struggling w/ stuff like budgeting, time management, or meal planning isn't evidence you can't "adult." It's often evidence you've had to McGuyver your way through life-- & if the skillset you developed doesn't map perfectly to some peoples' expectations, that's NOT a "failure."

It’s been ages since I saw a “ripped from the headlines” episode of L&O: SVU but S27E7, “False Idols”, is straight-up Gaiman/Palmer.

Distraction is absolutely a legit coping tool in realistic trauma recovery. Don't think you have to meet everything head on, full speed, at all times-- it's just real important we don't substitute constant, desperate distraction for acknowledging & processing feelings & memories.

If we want our "parts" & inner child to trust us, we need to show them-- not tell, show-- that we're willing to stay w/ them even when the hard sh*t hits. That we won't respond to painful feelings & memories by punishing or abandoning ourselves.

That we're not like our abusers.

wait you’re telling me that this simple task I’ve been putting off for two weeks, that has tormented me like a two hour task, only took 30 seconds to complete? If only there were a valuable lesson I could learn from this.

Ah well. Nevertheless.

The fact that we avoid or struggle w/ things we "should" do to achieve our goals is not about "laziness"-- it's more often about conditioned resistance & anxiety.

Do not let the voices of your bullies & abusers convince you you lack the "character" or "will" to do this. Breathe.

Yes: it's overwhelmingly unfair that what happened TO us requires us to work a recovery now where we have to do specific, effortful things every day to be safe & stable. That shouldn't be on us.

We don't have to love it, even as we work our recovery & take control of our life.

Explain your username:
"hanov3r.com" is my vanity domain, registered in 2002. It's the 1337 form of "Hanover", the name I'd chosen as my nom de guerre in the LARP fighting game I was playing. THAT choice came from the "Hanover Fiste" segment of the movie Heavy Metal. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lqsg...
