On Wednesday, Conde Nast management illegally fired four union leaders. While our union fights these illegal dismissals, the “Fired Four” have been left with no severance or COBRA coverage. Please donate to help cover their living expenses at the link below.

I mentioned this on stream, but the Big Backlog Bracket is finally real, and this is what it looks like! God help me.
(I had to break it up into two brackets because there were too many for one, but not enough for two full ones...)

Chris's Steakhouse was a New Orleans landmark
Chris Matulich periodically got bored, sold it, waited for the new owner to fail, and bought it back cheap
The sale conditions: Can't move it, can't change the name
He did this six times
Then he sold it to Ruth Fertel

After all, if you post enough to social media that a stranger can build a picture of your daily schedule, what you do for a living, where you work, where you eat, and the products and services you use, they can probably make an educated attempt to pose as you.

I can't speak to Wapo but I can speak to NYT and it seems this is true of other newsrooms - it's because a lot of newsrooms have cultish cultures. It really does break your brain.
NYT was the most harmful place I've ever worked & it still took a lot of therapy to get over that I chose to leave

I thought the same thing about WaPo for a decade. Even when I took the buyout! I’ve been out for almost two years and I am still coming to grips with how deluded I was.
A lot of nyt folks, me among them, believed we could change the culture and the coverage from the inside. That by working within channels, we could convince the leadership of its obligation to cover trans ppl fairly.
In hindsight I’ve come to think I was naive.

If Conde really cared about "aggressive, disruptive, threatening behavior" I have PLENTY of examples for them to take action on and I promise you *none* of them are at the line editor/actual journalist level, but hey, what do I know...
This is the fucking funniest thing to read, btw.
While at WIRED, I had a manager:
- mock my physical tics during a large meeting
- shout at me and slam his laptop in the middle of the Conde cafeteria
- Shout at me at a bar after hours for raising ethical concerns
+more with zero consequences

Conde Nast hates its workers more than any company I've ever worked for
New: Conde Nast fired four employees who were among a group that confronted the company's head of human resources on Wednesday over the decision to fold Teen Vogue into Vogue/recent cuts. Employees who were fired included journalists from the New Yorker, Wired, and Bon Appétit.

The only thing Conde Nast loves more than laying off queer journalists and journalists of color is replacing them with white women who also can't stand queer journalists or journalists of color and will take any opportunity to marginalize them.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.
certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.
