When Kittens Came to My Prison, I Had Not Petted One in 15 Years. “All those hard cases doing hard time melt like butter on a summer sidewalk when they visit the felines, feed them, watch them chase the birds and bees…” [prisonjournalismproject.org]
When Kittens Came to My Prison, I Had Not Petted One in 15 Years
I had not touched a cat in 15 years when an orange kitten wandered over to sit with me in the grass.

Elon Musk is floating the idea of a third party to change American politics.

In Anatomy of a Purple State, I wrote a bit about the possibility of a 3rd party taking hold.

The context of the book is #ncpol, but the same thing applies in CA, TX, MN, ME, AL, NE, MI, SC…

My partner & I were trying to ID a bird we heard while walking and the guy who had stopped his car to let us pass got out and was like "it's a frog, actually. Cope's Gray. I do frog surveys... Sorry" And then got in his car without a word and drove off. Absolute king

Deep Blue is 30 years old and was capable of defeating chess grand champions. It could be housed in a single cabinet.

ChatGPT spans untold data centers devouring massive amounts of electricity and it got its ass whipped by an 8 bit gaming console from the 1970s.

And on the 'Beginner' difficulty level, too.

I helped build a government AI system. DOGE fired me, rolled the AI out to the whole agency, and implied the AI can do my job and the jobs of the others they've fired.

It can't. But, what DOGE accidentally revealed about themselves in the process is fascinating. 🧵

Now that musk is saying he’s doing the DOGE stuff “because the globalists have plotted a Great Replacement in which they use government handouts to buy votes from illegal immigrants and urban blacks” maybe we don’t have to act like this is about deficits or cost cutting anymore

saw a guy whose kayak was almost falling out his cyber truck the same summer i saw a guy casually biking his CANOE up a hill looked sturdy as shit
As a car the cybertruck is a shit car.

As a TRUCK an ebike with a trailer is a more effective vehicle.

We could just be reading great books, watching good movies, and eating fruit. Instead we have to survive/fight miserable power hoarders. What a waste of limited time.

Reader, I do not know the demons that haunt your dreams, the frustrations and insults of life that have brought you to your knees, the sadness you battle in your heart.

But know this: there is pure goodness in this world. It exists. Sometime we see a glimpse of it.

Today, I got such a peek.

Working in education with NPS in Alaska in 2008, the message on climate change data was you see it in the coldest places, coldest time of year, coldest part of the day, ie when you isolated changes in average winter-season nighttime lows, the change was punching you in the face even in pre-2010 data
No, it’s not just you.

As a product of the Great Lakes region (Youngstown → SE MI → Lansing → Columbus → Cincinnati → Lansing → Cincinnati), the patterns, temperatures, and rhythms of the season feel unmistakably altered.
