It will take decades to repair the CDC, EPA, NOAA, etc. Both the staff and their legitimacy have been put through the wringer.
New from me: I talked to CDC staffers about the new vaccines and autism page. They said things like:

“The best way I can put it is it feels like we’re on a hijacked airplane.”

“I think people are starting to see that we can’t fulfill our mission here.”
“Embarrassing” and “horrifying”: CDC workers describe the new vaccines and autism page
"The best way I can put it is it feels like we're on a hijacked airplane."

I hate this "phones" conversation regarding queer people and queer kids because the bottom line is, cishet society KNOWS. Right-wingers KNOW that the internet is how queer people connect to each other---hell, that marginalized people period use it to organize and educate.

That's why they hate it.

There is a pretty clearly delineated line between "the attacks on Israel were provoked by decades of apartheid and brutality and the Israeli government is to blame for them" and "killing elementary schoolers is totes fine, actually" and a few of you are very uncomfortably on the wrong side of it

Conservatives think falling population in blue cities means they are crime ridden hellholes no one wants to live in when what's actually happening in a lot of cases is that demand is so high to live there families with kids can't compete with DINKs and boomer retirees

You don't have to be a spy to be a foreign asset. A person can be a foreign asset just by being easily manipulated, such as how Elon Musk was easily manipulated to personally interfere with Ukraine's military operations.

Just a shocking, deplorable failure that it took us 18 months to even *decide* to send F-16s to Ukraine.

We keep self-deterring based on some imagined Russian escalation. They're already bombing hospitals, what exactly are they going to do they're not already doing?

It makes me sad that SNW is so beholden to TOS canon. TOS is 60 years old! Most of the people who made it are dead! It's time to move on! Just make the best show you can, not the show that conforms to the sacred ancient texts...

SNW Subspace Rhapsody was really good, though I am sad that my favorite subplot is over, and my favorite character is leaving

Can't handle these deranged "sad day for the republic" takes.

No, the sad day was the day the crimes were committed.

Consequences for said crimes is a good thing.

NATO should declare Ukrainian grain ships under its protection, and see if Russia dares attack them.

I'm really curious what the deal was here. S. Korea gave up its nuclear weapons program. Revealing the location of a submarine has NEGATIVE strategic value. So what did they ACTUALLY get out of this deal?

There’s being ignorant of risk, there’s being bad at weighing or evaluating risk, and then there’s an attitude that treats consciousness of risk with contempt and engages in performative casualness about it. OceanGate seems to be in that last category.

Teflon Mask's declaration of "cis" and "cisgender" as slurs is something of a golden opportunity for BlueSky to differentiate itself from Twitter and Mastodon by taking a definitive stance on the protection of not just Trans people but all marginalized groups.

The US could end the war in Ukraine at any time, and every day we let Ukrainians die instead of doing that is a moral travesty.

The Hornet gets overlooked because Ukraine doesn't have any carriers, but it's a great plane for them. Better suited to rough airfields and limited maintenance than the F-16.

Sorry, but it's not okay that the piece's conservative author and the anti-trans editors over at the Atlantic lied about trans people. You don't get to do a little lying as a treat.
Licht is a buffoon for whom i have bottomless contempt, yet I don't fault the author or his editors (much) for missing the distinction between hormone therapy and treatment when Alberta is outlining Licht's desire for CNN to offend its viewers under the guise of a "search for answers"
