So, this is #BlueSky. Interesting. I left the Chaos Bird Site about 2 years ago for Mastodon and haven’t really looked back. But there’s been so much noise in the media about BlueSky, so I thought I’d check it out. Are #hashtags a thing here? I find them useful, but if not, I’ll adapt.

If unions were bad for workers, corporations wouldn’t pour millions into union-busting consultants.

Funny how they fight so hard to “protect” workers from better wages, safer conditions, and a voice on the job.

They’re terrified of one thing: workers having real power.

🕯️ A question for The Narthex about Bishop Seabury: Everything I’ve read about him indicates he was loyal to the Crown during the Revolution, but then he ends up becoming the first Bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the new USA. How is it that he landed in that place? …

Why is this so hard? Do better pundits, politicians and journalists. Do better.
Quick point of clarification for pundits, politicians, journalists, & any others commenting on the Epstein Trump files:
The victims were NOT "young women". They were CHILDREN.
As such, they were not capable of giving legal consent. Sex without consent is rape.
Words matter. Get them right.

First snowflakes on the 7-day of the season for Denver. Timing still TBD, but likely mid/late next week.

Doesn't look like much snow, but finally, a big pattern flip is on the horizon.

The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

On the occasion of Elon Musk pretending that he reads books, I thought I’d reshare my “100 Best Books On City-Making Ever Written” article in @planetizen.bsky.social. It’s 12 years old and needs updating, and got plently of debate back then, but I’d still recommend most of these. #UrbanismBookClub

Many Americans are hurting right now because of the shutdown, but caving to Republicans won’t end the hurt.

Trump and his lapdogs continue to assert that they alone have the power to slash whatever programs they don’t like.

Deals with this regime are meaningless.

Absolutely correct
American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

Great job, @schumer.senate.gov. You've changed the story from "GOP hurting millions of Americans to please unpopular, failing, delusional despot who's destroying his party" to "Dems are too weak and divided in the face of Trump's strength to take a stand and protect Americans"

seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)

If the left actually had any kind of media environment equivalent to the right those 8 senators would be absolutely torn to shreds right now.

Every engaged Democrat would be invoking their names as swear words and they’d be reticent to ever travel home to their own states.

Some people will never turn away from Trump, and it's not our job to convince them.

It is our job to mobilize and empower the people who see what he's doing and want him gone.

He is historically unpopular and weak. Impeachment is more popular than he is.
Ipsos finds Trump’s approval rating is decreasing almost entirely because of anti-incumbent economic anxiety. Approval rating among people who say the economy is the # 1 issue is -24pts since Jan. It’s stable for people who index on all other issues www.ipsos.com/en-us/lesson...

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.
