My hometown is in the New York Times, and my mayor, an absolute ding dong, is rolling his eyes at his constituents (me!) who are alarmed that the armed, masked men are disappearing our neighbors, has terrified families and students, and closed businesses. An absolute embarrassment.

So for today's lunch letter for my youngest, I ran out of paper. But then I realized I had labels! So I made some impromptu nature-y #valentines using my (uh, slightly overwhelming) library of nature photos. Feel free to share/use 'em if you like 'em. #nature #moth #fungi #slimemolds

I've run or edited literary magazines for twenty-some years. I run Prose Poems (prosepoems.com) now. An editor should mostly be anonymous. (Editors are helpers.) But given what's happening in #Minnesota, where I live, I felt compelled to contribute, for the first time, via nonfiction

"Why handcuff him right away?": Witness questions ICE tactics

Federal agents followed a car off the highway north of Anoka on Wednesday morning and briefly detained a Latino man and woman before letting them go, according to witnesses.
'Why handcuff him right away?' Witness questions ICE tactics
“They ripped him right out of his car,” a witness said. “He didn't get to pull out ID or nothing. They ripped his door open and handcuffed him immediately.”

Today in St. Paul
This is the aftermath of an ICE kidnapping a few blocks from my home in St. Paul—an hour ago. A quiet street full of broken glass and at least three wrecked cars. The target of the kidnapping was taken away by ambulance. He was on a stretcher and covered by a sheet, though a cop said he was alive.

Really important article topic that is explained well.
Historical analogies are arguments. So when someone makes an analogy between today and the Holocaust, or today and anything, think about they are really arguing for. What is the analogy trying to get you to do?

Perry: When is it OK to compare aspects of what’s happening in Minnesota to Nazi Germany?
Gov. Tim Walz has made some such analogies in relation to ICE and has been criticized for it, David M. Perry writes.

This is hysterically wrong (way more Germans). But instead of this sideshow attempt at psychology by way of demography, the focus ought to be on Rufo's sinister idea of "over-empathizing." Minnesotans don't empathize too much. We do something that Rufo & co. simply can't do: Love they neighbor.

Letter home from the Minneapolis "theater" (ICE deployment): A cold January. We are not greeted as liberators, as we were promised. Instead, we are called "hosers" and laughed at when we fail at basic winter driving and repeatedly fall onto ice. Worst of all: the jeers from soccer moms and grandmas.
“in theater” is a crazy way to describe minneapolis
Q: Can you be specific about how many ICE and CBP agents are currently operating in the state?

HOMAN: 3,000. There's been some rotations. They've been in theater a long time. Day after day, can't eat in restaurants, people spin on you, blowing whistles at you. But my main focus now is draw down

One ICE agent per 136 residents. We are going to be seeing what is essentially a purge.
I know all eyes are on Minneapolis, but there's a fast-approaching nightmare in Springfield, Ohio.

Trump is revoking protected status for tens of thousands of Haitians living there on Feb. 3.

Reportedly, on Feb. 4, 1000 ICE agents are arriving to remove this population. Ethnic cleansing.
