written language is a technology that can be broken. it can be lost. it appears we are well along the way to breaking it in this country. think about how angry you get when you imagine someone torching a library. be angrier than that. it is not one library being lost for these kids. it's all of them
I'm glad people are angry about the way that we've been failing to teach kids how to read. I need them to be angrier. written language is on the order of fire in terms of how important they are to what we have become as a species. and we're not teaching kids to start fires safely either. be. angrier

if you make a game about a train, all the steam reviews are gonna say it's on rails and all of them are going to feel very clever about it

bro the kids can't read. that's why the web is dying. first things first

ever since I learned about three-cueing I've developed infinitely more patience for replies on social media. mfers literally do not know how to read. people are walking around conjuring random meanings into words they don't know, and they don't know a lot of words. it's crazy

Look guys I’ve spent the last day playing this over and over again. Don’t read the comments first and stick it through to the second verse. It is in fact one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard.

something ive been casually noodling on for while is a thought experiment of how i'd try to design an fps with the pacing, density, and scoring of a CAVE shmup. in a lot of ways it doesn't feel possible because most shmups rely a lot on the fact that positioning and aiming are the same thing

a lot of people when playing games (or checking out any artistic media tbh!) aren't actually interested in engaging with the medium, what they want is a product that is going to trick them into feeling nice. to them, games should be a consumer good where they trade money and time for pleasure
Thinking about Axioms about how "Good design should be invisible" and that might be true for like idk the UX on an app, but we're making videogames and I think it's important to remind the player a game designer with weird pervert opinions is there, trying to talk to them in silly little fun ways.

Love Tara rightfully boiling over this lol. It's so funny that this was something people brought up constantly when the game came out as GOOD design, but as years go on, games train people more and more to NOT actively engage with and respond to what they're experiencing.
I'm watching a vid on Silksong and they're saying Dark Souls 1 had a 'bad' opening section (firelink) because, while there are multiple paths, there's only one you can fully pursue. Thus the others are 'fake' and it's a 'guess' as to whether you have a 'good' or 'awful' time...

I am older than gender markers on passports! How do you regulate gender? By making it a form of government ID. It has nothing to do with state security, only regulation

Something worth noting: Rockstar is leaning HEAVILY on the excuse that the unionising employees were "leaking private company information"
They want people to assume this means game info or assets.
But I will bet you CASH MONEY this translates to:
'they were comparing salaries and work contracts"

"Rockstar, Rockstar, you're disgusting, we charge you with union busting," the protesters declared.
'All you had to do was follow the damn law, Rockstar!': Workers are protesting outside Take-Two after GTA 6 dev's alleged 'brazen' union-busting
"They can get used to seeing us on their doorstep."

"World's first potential trillionaire has killed 600,000 people, including 400,000 children" is the only headline that anyone should ever read about Elon Musk
One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/jUzNSc
The Shutdown of U.S.A.I.D. Has Already Killed Hundreds of Thousands
The short documentary “Rovina’s Choice” tells the story of what goes when aid goes.

I helped make a film, out this week, called “Rovina’s Choice,” about the deaths this man without conscience or accountability has caused — already 600,000, ⅔ of them children.
