Hello world! I'm a professor (currently in Texas but moving to Michigan) of Latine studies who publishes and teaches in AfroLatina/o/x studies, US-Central American lit, & video games and pop culture. One publication I'm proud of is this @theconversation.com piece: theconversation.com/across-the-s...
‘Across the Spider-Verse’ and the Latino legacy of Spider-Man
Latino characters have traditionally been underrepresented in mainstream comics. But Spider-Man’s backstory makes him the perfect superhero to be recast as a minority.

NYTimes was also aware a staff writer was a close friend of Epstein - who had been offered incriminating photos of a Presidential candidate - and chose instead to spend the next decade on totally unjustified, frankly delusional, propagandized coverage of trans people and their doctors as “predators”
I'm sorry, I'm still having a hard time getting over that the owner of the NY Times is in the Epstein files thing and they haven't even acknowledged this in any reporting.

The fact that this, and every other Trump pardonee who has subsequently broken the law, has not ended Trump's political career, that it barely even registers on the national discourse, underlines just how far we are from a functioning democracy that values accountability.
A man pardoned by Donald Trump for his role in January 6th - he assaulted Capitol Police officers with bear spray & a metal whip - has avoided prison for child sex crimes because of the president’s sweeping pardon, despite pleading guilty to soliciting what he believed was a 15-year-old girl for sex

Communicating why a 50 year mortgage costs more, overall, than a 30 year mortgage should not be a hard task.

The problem is the average American is both functionally illiterate and innumerate, as a deliberate result of decades of the policies made by the very people pushing for 50 year mortgages.

Please read the proposed changes and recognize the danger. Texas A&M will require approval of any course teaching race and gender by the President or other designated person. The section on prohibited discrimination has changed to add prohibited instruction as well. 1/3

No it’s important to listen to this. Because then you understand that many of them will do ANYTHING to keep power. Remember Musk got involved in the 2024 election after saying to Tucker “if she wins” I am definitely going to prison.

So we need to move knowing that nothing is off the table for them.

arXiv will no longer accept review articles and position papers unless they have been accepted at a journal or a conference and complete successful peer review.

This is due to being overwhelmed by a hundreds of AI generated papers a month.

a huge part of the gen ai project is to create the mythic past that is central to the fascist narrative: the non-existent golden age that needs to be restored and the supposed fallen present that must be overturned. if these things are lies then reality itself must be altered to make them true
Again, this precise use case is why these systems exist-to proliferate people’s racist (transphobic, misogynistic…) imaginary at scale. This should not be seen as a “misuse” but rather the product being used exactly as intended.
