I get it, but this impacts those who can answer as well. I'll never ever ever forget how I felt my freshman year of HS, when I got grilled on the meaning of extraordinarily complex words that I couldn't possibly know at such a young age, like "bile." Clearly *I* wasn't capable of such wordsmithery.
When I taught, I’d catch plagiarism by asking a student, who I suspected hadn’t written the essay, what a word meant. Being unable to answer correctly meant an automatic zero on the essay.

Alright fuck it I've had enough. HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT, MIKE?! Every time you're asked a question during your own press conferences, you haven't heard about whatever it is. You never know about anything that's going on, but somehow you know what the entire media establishment talks about every day? 🙄
CAIN: Why are polls showing 52% of Americans are blaming Republicans and Trump for the shutdown?

MIKE JOHNSON: The entire media establishment is parroting the talking points of the Democrats every day. It's the most staggering level of gaslighting we've ever seen in American politics.

This is the most correct take. We were paying $65 for Killer Instinct SNES cart in the 90s! Most PS1 games were $50 in 1995! 30 fucking years ago!

Games are much cheaper now and devs are ground into dust on impossible release schedules.
AAA video games should cost $100 on launch. this would still be extremely cheap for the amount of time and enjoyment you get out of them! But an audience of whiny babies has kept them literally at the same price for *two decades* despite both general inflation *and* sector-specific costs rising

Tears

The wordless language of your grief

The silent voice of your sadness

The wet expression of your soul

The visible proof that you love me

Of deep passions and wounds

Of profound pain and joy

The faithful word of your bitterness

The final truth you don't hide.

It's definitely Houston St.
What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

So umm, 8 years and 11 months ago, Trump won an election running on a platform featuring chants (and headlines) of "Lock [the Democratic nominee] up!"

Who the actual fuck wouldn't have believed this last year?! Whether or not you agree with it, I can't imagine truly believing this to be impossible.
If someone told you a year ago this would be a headline in 2025, you wouldn't have believed them.

Authoritarianism has taken over our country.

Shoutout to that sticker with the bee that was on every VHS we borrowed from the library!

We didn't really have that problem though, we were already in the habit of instantly rewinding as soon as it finished. My little brother pioneered binge watching, except it was the same tape over and over and
Reviewing VHS cassettes for an archival processing project and I have to say, whoever had these tapes last was not kind and did not rewind. #Archives

ANYWAY, all that to ask a favor. I'm going back to 2009 and replacing Discover with an RSS feed. What are your recommendations for solid, reliable RSS news sources? I'm looking for tech (not AI), science, US/world news, sports, games, music (rock/metal/electro). Thanks in advance!
Background Context 🧵

For at least a year or two, I've increasingly noticed Google Discover repeatedly pushing specific topics to me and not allowing me to say I'm not interested in them. It's very clearly purposeful, because it's only specific topics; has felt very much like undisclosed paid ads.

Still waiting. 🤔
Just once, instead of reading "X, formerly known as Twitter," I want an article to just straight up say "X, the shambling festering corpse of Twitter."

This is exactly what watching any NWSL game is like. It's so painful, every week we have to check where that game is being broadcast, and hope our $200+ monthly total paid to streaming services includes that. Often doesn't. 🙃
The football game is on CBS so that means it won’t be on Peacock like last week, CBS means I have to check Paramount because it’s not airing locally otherwise I’d have to check Hulu Live TV and if it wasn’t there I’d have to check NFL Sunday ticket, which I pay $400/year for but never airs my game

Discovering computer as an adult makes you go crazy. Discovering computer as a baby makes you go crazy. In all of human history, there will only ever be one generation to discover computer at the correct age: 13
The problem with every post-Millennial generation is they got to go straight to high speed internet. Of course you'll get computer madness that way. Make them start with those old screeching modems and work their way up
