All babies born today will be exposed to Covid. They have no more immunity than babies born in 2020. With so few vaccinated, deaths and hospitalizations in the youngest have not declined over time. Removing the rec guarantees continued, preventable harms & lays groundwork for more schedule changes.

So basically our core biomedical agenda has gone from cancer and heart disease research with major investments in alzheimers/dementia research to jacking up the sperm count of teenage males and a new wild goose for the 'hidden causes' of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

It's hard to see what is happening unless you pull back the lens, read @ruthbenghiat.bsky.social and others on autocrats and centers of knowledge and expertise. Once you recognize it, a chill should go down your spine. www.thenation.com/article/soci...
Trump and RFK Jr. Are Destroying a Generation of Knowledge
The gutting of the administrative state, of the universities, and of expertise is like something out of the Cultural Revolution.

You cannot understand the Signal story if you don't remember that Trump had a call on the proper USG channels and an intelligence analyst reviewed it and realized he needed to report a crime. That got Trump impeached. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/signa...

The replies tell the story. Millions of Americans are suffering, experiencing disability from Long Covid. This abandonment of a key HHS office, despite assurances otherwise, sends a message that will not be forgotten.

They’re throwing away a cure for cancer.

Seattle Reign and Sounders had a joint press conference today, and Brian Schmetzer mentioned a few times that he can learn as much from Laura Harvey as she can from him. Men's soccer has always had more resources, but quality people work in women's soccer too. Good on Schmetz for noting it!

100% of his salary is paid by WA state.

Elon fired him. Share his story.

Agree. It’s also on us in the media to be amplifying these stories about what and who is being destroyed right now.
I've noted some of the procedural things Democrats could be doing in Congress, but this point from @edgeofsports.bsky.social's great piece in the Nation deserves emphasis.

This is basic politics, and it's baffling that every Democrat isn't doing it every day.

Yes need some epidemiologist & stats folk to set up a Trump/RFK excess mortality clock like the debt clock.

The hardest part about public health is that when we succeed, there's no crisis, no epidemic. People carry on with daily life, unaware of a near-miss. We may never know how bad it could have been - because our public health workforce is always taking action to avoid, prevent, and control threats.
