I question how useful that habit can be with strangers in any way (and it’s twice as grating), but it is kind of just the zoomer version of recommending a book about a contentious topic. It contains the arguments yes, but also a lot of detail to support them
A personal note about this, by the way: I will never have anything but the deepest contempt for people who respond to a discussion of a film by linking a youtube video about why it's bad, and The Last Jedi brings those people out in fucking droves. Have your own thoughts! Brew your own invective!
And I remember watching that shift happen in real time! For a good long while, you basically could not talk about the film publicly (online or IRL at a party) without someone coming up and regurgitating a youtube video at you about how you were wrong, and it sucked, and had Ruined Star Wars
