The graves outside Farfield Quaker Meeting House in West Yorkshire at first seem rather confusing: one grave calls January the eleventh month and another calls June the fourth month. However, this wasn’t an error or a simple mistake.

I've had an airmiles card since like 2010 & still only have 3k miles, not enough for a flight to the next province, so we just spent them on some kitchen items & I feel like its an extra Christmas present!

In the vein of using fancy things while you have them & not saving them for a mystery occasion, today I'm wearing a lucite bracelet my husband bought me a few years ago, but Ontario artist Corey Moranis. I never wear it because it's 'fancy' but fancy can be for now!

Sam is absolutely right: if you have the chance to enjoy a small pleasure, don’t deny yourself
Did you get something really *nice* for Christmas? Are you saving it?

STOP

Eat it. Slather yourself in it. Spray it on a random wfh Tuesday. Use it next time you have a meal. Make up an occasion and use it.

Whatever it is don't hoard it until it's near its use by date or too precious.

I also love books and often buy books that I don’t read right away. I always end up feeling a bit guilty.

Here’s the thing: we don’t have to use AI. And every day we don’t, you preserve skills that other ppl are progressively losing.

We are also keep the tech bros from making money on this garbage.

And it’s eating them alive that they can’t coerce us.

We have the power to ruin them.

Archivists/librarians please share the coolest thing in your collections that will never be digitized.
I live in the heart of California gold country. One of the richest mines ever in CA is nearby. Opened circa 1860 closed 1942. A local foundation has preserved the records on site. I know not a stitch has been digitized and am confident no more than 2 pro historians have ever been in there.

This is an important conversation to start here in Canadian archaeology 🇨🇦🏺

The discussion has started down south with @flintdibble.bsky.social, @miniminuteman.bsky.social, and others.

But Canada has its own challenges to address, its own history of archaeology being abused, erasure, and denialism.
Maybe this is a time to have a roundtable or panel discussion about threats to archaeology/gists in Canada, drawing folks accross Canada from Parks, CRM, academia, etc. to talk about identifying different types of threats and suggestions on how best to document and address them 🤔

When I was studying historical linguistics, one of the most mind-blowing things was just how often we had primary texts to research an extinct language because someone found a book at a library that nobody knew was there. Many libraries are so old and so big that we don't know what's in them.
