"Men are disturbed not by events, but by the view that they take of them"

Epictetus
I have one. Voters make decisions based on the ideas in their heads and their beliefs about the world, and those ideas and beliefs are heavily shaped by their social interactions, especially media consumption, and in the last 20 years most media consumption is from social media's sea of lies.
I don't think center left or left or center pundits have put forward a single coherent explanation of the 2016 election following the 2024 election as literally all of their theories of the 2016 election were disproven by the Biden term.

I think this fellow might even have a theory about why...
Our leading news organizations turned a cache of ultimately-innocuous emails into a scandal-coded weeklong series of front page stories leading into the 2016 election. If they do not cover the "emails from notorious pedophile implication the President" emails with the same fervor, it's curious!

Po-tay-toes!

Mash 'em, boil 'em, stick 'em in your sock!
Under-the-weather TikTokers are slicing raw potatoes and placing them in their — and their children’s — socks before bed. The theory is that the potato draws out toxins.

However, experts warn against relying on folk remedies over medical care.
No, putting a potato in your sock will not cure a cold

Not that long ago, garments were so valuable they were routinely left in wills.

If you go back to the immediate pre-industrial period, clothing and bedding linens were likely the second most valuable thing you owned outside of your house (if you even owned it!)
Clothing has become so cheap people literally cannot conceptualize it as a major household expense

Fascinating to see in real time the moral degradation and auto-dehumanization of an entire class of elites who became so convinced of their own unique excellence that the mere *suggestion* of incorporating an ethical perspective that includes ANYONE ELSE is an identity-threatening event

The Fordist Family Wage was not "prosperity" by any contemporary definition. It was stable, perhaps, but it was also highly contingent, dependent on the exclusion of women and non white men from much of the labor force. And even then, it could exist for only about 30 years before collapsing
People need to realize their ideas about past "middle class prosperity" are mostly nonsense.

We collectively memory-holed Abu Ghraib and let the wrong people get away with terrible crimes. We cannot repeat the mistake
40 men Trump sent to CECOT tell the NYT they were beaten, tortured, and sexually assaulted. The details are worse than you can imagine.

We can’t let them get away with this. Miller and the other architects of this sadism need to go to prison.

We elected Mamdani on Tuesday, and already this Friday, I got my mandatory Madrassa report date for 2026.... amazing how fast this happens these days!
Tuberville: “We just saw what happened in NY. We lost NY. It will be completely Muslim in 3-4 years. That’s what they want. And it’s going to spread throughout the country.”
November 7, 2025 at 10:05 PM
I was at an event with a lot of finance and real estate people here in the city last night. Not a single person brought up Mamdani. No one was worried in any perceptible way

Oh, wait, one lady mentioned him - said she thought he was cute. That was it

The freakout is contained to the media
Canadian multimillionaire and Shark Tank guy Kevin O'Leary went on TV to say he's upset Zohran won't talk to him: "I and others who invest in real estate have tried to get a meeting to figure out what's rhetoric and what's policy. So far for me it's been crickets."

This is completely true. The gap between public and private sector pay for jobs of equivalent complexity has become a chasm. The mayor of NYC should easily be making 750K - 1M

This is also true of federal officials AND their staffs, by the way.
The Mayor of New York only makes $260k. I bet there are police that make more than that in NY with overtime.

We need to pay elected leaders more money and stop pretending it's some sort of calling. They're managing hundreds of billions of dollars in investments and millions of people's lives.

First time I've seen him admit that he actually knew enough about something to comment on it
Mike Johnson: "I don't think the loss last night was any reflection about Republicans at all. I think people are frustrated and angry, as we are, I am, the president is, and we express that in different ways."
