When I talk to students about public speaking or teaching, I always bring this up: Just tell people when you don't know something! It's remarkably powerful b/c it signals to your audience that you know the boundaries of your expertise and they can trust what you DO talk about.

A true side note: Prince cared deeply about food insecurity, and would routinely make substantial donations to local food banks and community kitchens in every town that he would play in during his later tours. Sometimes they would ask for supplies & his team would show up with huge amounts of food.
A potato has been named after Prince.

this is gossip, not journalism but still bad for real journalists who can't afford townhouses and Mustangs but who are doing the work of keeping democracy afloat in a time of extraordinary peril. That said, am I reading a bootleg copy of the Bamboo Diaries? Oh yes I am. bsky.app/profile/this...
Olivia Nuzzi lied to her editors at New York Magazine, repeatedly, during the RFK Jr. affair, something the people who hired her at Vanity Fair knew, and chose to dismiss.
The more Lizza writes the more he indicts himself in serious ethical lapses but there are a lot of editors and publishers who are complicit here, too.

The whole thing is just gross.

(And shout out to the serious journalists who do good work. You deserve better peers and a healthier industry.)

League sources say that the Bengals made the decision Friday to roll with Joe Flacco for another week, with the hope that Burrow will return to the lineup Thanksgiving night against the Ravens.

really not trying to shade folks but a lot of these newsletters are a reminder of why editors exist
November 21, 2025 at 3:37 PM
This is true of most newsrooms. Also most reporters (and many editors) are naturally suspicious of authority and like to pick fights, so the idea of organization-wide agreement on anything other than 'covering the news well' is far fetched.
I have my own criticism of their story mix - i think there should be fewer stories about some things and a lot more about others - but there is no top down mandate that determines that and stories tend to be driven by what individual section heads and editors think is important

Yet, he’ll leave office having achieved a lasting legacy when it comes to housing and zoning

Will his reforms make NYC more affordable?
